Help Phoenix arise from the ashes / Air America Phoenix

On March 1, 2006 our Air America Phoenix station was taken off the air by a Christian Broadcasting company. This was a “dark” day for progressive talk radio in America. You have flooded us with emails pleading to get Air America back on the radio and asking how you can help. We have heard your cries and we can get us back on the air by April 3, 2006!

The former staff of Air America Phoenix has negotiated a deal to resurrect operations at a new home effective April 3, 2006 but we need your help! We must immediately raise money to cover our operating expenses out of the gate. Our goal of $500,000 will guarantee us a home for years to come.

1. Why was it taken off the air? WTF?!?!?!?!

I drive from Yuma, AZ to Tucson a lot and I can get it in for most of the drive! I am heading to Tucson again on Friday. This sucks. sucks sucks sucks.

2. My information

My information is that the change to the Air America Radio format brought KXXT from unrated and unprofitable to tied for third of 25 AM stations and profitable, in less than a year. The owners then sold the station to a Christian broadcasting group, who are changing the format to yet another Christian station in Phoenix.

The group of employees who turned the station around are ready to make it happen again on another Phoenix station. Dr. Mike Newcomb, one of the KXXT hosts, his producer, and some of the original staff are involved in this effort.
