Zounds! It's a bit long, but well worth the time. I'm not sure if you'll come away happier or more scared, but read it. And maybe stock up on some canned goods and stuff some cash in your mattress.

2. Even if every American read this article, understood its implications, and
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 11:46 AM by no_hypocrisy
accepted them as fact, then what?

Any opposition to this regime is disorganized, if not demoralized. We talk a good game here on the Board. But citizens with torches and pitchforks don't change things. And even with the republicans waking up from their self-induced coma, they are unsure how much money they can afford to lose on my fronts if they challenge * and demand he dance to their tune instead of the other way around.

My theory is if enough republicans can "go without" and join with non-DINO democrats, we might have a chance of stopping this expected train wreck. Remember before the majority of the Senate went republican? * was stymied and it wasn't a sure thing that his agenda would be advanced. It did happen and can happen again.

* and the neocons are the minority. THE MINORITY! There's more of us than them.

3. Great Article--
It actually gives me some hope. I think that the journalists/writers/commentators who spell out their expectations of the things this administration could do to maintain power, the more transparent Bush's desperate actions will become, and hopefully, congress and an informed public will say "NO!"

6. It's called "Class Warfare" and even Warren Buffett knows which class won
""Corporate income taxes in fiscal 2003 accounted for 7.4% of all federal tax receipts, down from a post-war peak of 32% in 1952. With one exception (1983), last year’s percentage is the lowest recorded since data was first published in 1934. Even so, tax breaks for corporations (and their investors, particularly large ones) were a major part of the Administration’s 2002 and 2003 initiatives. If class warfare is being waged in America, my class is clearly winning.""

from Warren Buffett Urges Higher Corporate Taxes
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0306-01.htm

No, Warren, your class has clearly WON. Period. End of game.

7. Its the GOP that will have to stop this regime with the help of Dems
Dems cannot do it alone. I've thought this all along & the gop is now afraid of a huge backlash against them if they do not want to suffer at the polls. It's all a matter of self-survival. The dems need to get their act more toghether in order to take advantage of the * regime falling apart.

12. BUT, the deck is already stacked.
They've put all their people in place over the last 5+ years. Bolton at the UN, Wolfowitz at WTO, ScAlito and Roberts on the SCOTUS, people in the state dept., people in the Pentagon, people at all levels of our government who will do their bidding. That's why they're there. THEY ARE LOYAL FOLLOWERS OF THE PNAC AGENDA and want the same thing Cheney and Rumsfeld want...to overthrow our Government and be the dominator of the WORLD. How will the repukes stop them? Impeachment is the only way and it should already be in the works, it's not. I think it's too late to stop this. Our country is too far gone. They let it happen too...the repukes did. The media did. Now that the ball is rolling it can't be stopped. If the repukes try to stop this, we'll have a major attack on this country orchestrated, again, by Cheney and they will complete their plan by declaring Martial Law. Then, it's all over. It will "officially" be a Fascist country.

8. Buckley: "The kernel here is the acknowledgment of defeat."
We will never see any such acknowledgment from this admin.
They aren't capable of making such drastic (or sensible) course corrections.

9. Exactly. Also, everything is going according to plan for them
It's only a defeat if you're a patriotic American. If you're a despot who starts wars based on lies to enrich your friends, things couldn't possibly be going any better.

Great article, btw!

11. If the "loyal opposition" can only be found in the GOP ...
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 12:30 PM by TahitiNut
... then we're closer and closer to single-party rule. As we see the corporate media focus predominantly on the Repukelickers for both the proponents and opponents of policies on issues facing this nation, we're also seeing the increasing marginalization of the Democratic Party. A word to the wise: Cheer this at your peril.

17. Yep, I found the article to be chilling for the same reason...
Furthermore, the very idea that the same corporatist whores who created this disaster, will now come riding in on white horses to save the day... well, it makes me want to puke. These rats are abandoning ship to save their own worthless skins so they can survive to morph into a new and improved version of the same evil. These are self-serving mercenaries-in-suits, utterly lacking in character, who reject values like honor, decency, and loyalty. They must be given no quarter.

There can be no absolution without repentance, and there can be no repentance for anyone who continues to carry the corporatist banner. Every one of them must be forever linked to their complicity in the treason and criminal acts that have defined this administration, and cast aside. None can be made out now to be heroes. There is no such thing as a "good" corporatist; at the end of the day they all represent the same master, and they all work against the interests of the people. Any helping hand they may lend now must be recognized for the poison that it represents.

22. After all, isn't that why we see fewer and fewer Democrats on Sunday talk?
Liberal Democrats are an endangered species. The "Let George Do It" platform, brought to us by Vichy Amurika! Yay! :puke:

19. I really like this part
<snip>

Most Americans do not yet realize that a war is being waged - not against Iraq but against each of us. It is not the Republican Party that is charge in this administration but a small cadre who seized executive branch power and converted it to their own uses. Most Republicans are experiencing a deer-in-the-headlights moment right now. Their Party has been hijacked, their president has been hijacked, and they do not know what to do. I remain a registered Republican working for an effective coalition. The attack on us and on our rights has hardly begun. You don't go to the trouble of setting up this degree of control without having made plans to use it.

Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 07:36 PM by Iowa
Especially this part: "It is not the Republican Party that is charge in this administration but a small cadre who seized executive branch power and converted it to their own uses.".

That's bullshit. This whole stinkin' bunch has been part of the Bush team from the get-go. Bush & Co. defines the republican party. Now that the wheels are coming off the bus, they're scattering like the cockroaches they are. They tied their fate to Bush, and should sink with the ship. I prefer to shove their sorry asses back onto the deck so we don't have to deal with them again for another two or three generations.
