George Clooney on fighting the right wing

Excerpt:
Clooney is sufficiently battle-hardened these days to shrug it off when people have a go at him. "I was at a party the other night and it was all these hardcore Republicans and these guys are like, 'Why do you hate your country?' I said, 'I love my country.' They said, 'Why, at a time of war, would you criticise it then?' And I said, 'My country right or wrong means women don't vote, black people sit in the back of buses and we're still in Vietnam. My country right or wrong means we don't have the New Deal.' I mean, what, are you crazy? My country, right or wrong? It's not your right, it's your duty. And then I said, 'Where was I wrong, schmuck?' In 2003 I was saying, where are the ties and al-Qaida? Where are the ties to 9/11? I knew it; where the fuck were these Democrats who said, 'We were misled'? That's the kind of thing that drives me crazy: 'We were misled.' Fuck you, you weren't misled. You were afraid of being called unpatriotic."

But I do want to show him my boobs. Just got a reduction and they defy gravity now.

But really, I'd be happy with having him over for dinner.

Ooo! ooo! We should have a George Clooney Speaks forum on DU. Invite him in for Q&A and chit chat.

Okay, I'm starting to slobber all over myself now.

16. Ah yeah....
as if it wasn't enough to be a moral man with a passion for justice. . . that is a turn on right there.... but add the looks and .... well.... :woohoo:

27. Well said. I used to not like him, but I didn't know
about his liberal leanings and "passion". I think I had read that he wasn't interested in marriage, blah, blah, and I thought he was just another guy who couldn't commit. Then I found out more about what he was about and accepted that, no problem. Then I read about his politics and fell head over heels.

5. Heh- it's the "I did not have a computer" excuse.
Any Democrat with 15 extra minutes and access to "Google" should have known what Clooney, Dr Fate & thousands of on-line Democrats knew about Powell's false UN speech and other false media claims.

I would rather them say- "We heard the very compwelling disseting arguments, but decided to trust the president- that was a mistake."

14. Yeah, they should have had the lefties doing an MST3K number
on Powell's speech before the UN . . . but hey, that was before one lone fat guy in his parents' basement did an MST3K on Dan Rather's report on W's AWOL papers and suddenly, bloggers were making the news . . . now they're trying to downplay the impact of bloggers again . . . the Righties are the ones who gave "credibility" to people like DU, not the left . . .

20. The mainstream British Press reported Bush & Powell's lies.
DU's LBN & GD merely provided the links and subsequent discussion.

All Democrats needed was "google" and a computer, no bloggers required.

Outspoken and proud of it. I wish more people would use their influence like he does. Especially our elected leaders.

WOOF!

Damn I adore that man -- and it ain't about the facia -- it's about his brain, his unabashedly liberal ideals, and his complete willingness to speak the truth.

That makes me HOT!!!!

22. "Oh, it's trouble. Big Time!"
Hey ladies, quitcherdroolin and read this whole lovely, detailed, intelligent interview. It gives you even more reason to admire GC and to expect a whole lot more of neocon establishment-butt kicking films from this extremely bright man.

Here's the closing paragraph:
He hopes that both it (Syriana) and Good Night and Good Luck will nudge him into the tradition of the great campaigning film makers of the 1960s and 70s, "Sydney Lumet, Alan Pakula, Hal Ashby, Kubrick." He is having the time of his life now, everything that came before was just the prologue. "I've taken on my dad's battles.I'm fighting the fights that he fought. Oh it's trouble," he grins, "It's trouble big time."

23. "Clooney is quite sniffy about Michael Moore"
Clooney is quite sniffy about Moore, whose modus operandi he finds obnoxious and counter-productive. He uses his name as a verb - "I don't Michael Moore this shit," he says. "I don't come out and go, 'Look what these fuckers do.'" He thinks subtlety - class - gets better results.

25. I agree with Clooney about MM.
Right at the beginning of F911 when he gets the embassy security rules wrong I began to wonder about his research skills.

You get collared taking photographs of most embassies in DC, not just the Saudi embassy. That's been policy for decades.
