A fundamentalist Christian Texas Republican "just did his duty"
There is hope.

I just got off the phone with a business associate and friend whom I have known for years who lives in the Houston, Texas, area.

As we were speaking, he apologized for ending the conversation early and having to call me back because he had just arrived back home and his cell phone was dying. He said that he had just returned from "just doing his civic duty and voting."

When he called me back from his land line, I asked what elections were being held in Texas. He said that primaries were being decided and some local elections. I made some comment about everyone needed to be more civic minded and vote, and he went on to say that what really had motivated him was voting against Tom DeLay!!!!!

I was shocked! Here's a guy who on occasion has tried to convince me that intelligent design has a scientific basis; a man who home schools his kids so they won't become homosexuals; a man who has been espousing the Bush line to me for the past six years--in other words, "one of them"! And he not only goes to the poll today, a day that he later mentions he is jammed with work, to vote but to vote specifically AGAINST Tom Delay!

Not only does he mention that he is voting against Tom Delay, but he goes on to say that he doubts that it will do any good as the country is becoming a totalitarian state and soon we'll be closer to China's form of government than China will be to becoming a democracy!

We both had to get back to work and so didn't continue the conversation which was probably a relief to my friend who didn't want to hear me say, "I have been screaming about this for six plus years! I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!"

But if I know of one Christian fundamentalist Texan who is voting today because he is fed up with the culture of corruption and corporate and military control in this country, then there are probably a whole lot more.

If only we had control of the voting machines and the media!

6. Your friend is to be commended
for using his brain. He's looked at what has happened and has realized that DeLay and Bushco are stomping on Christian values. Now if only more Christians would wake up......

7. My Republican friend is thinking of becoming a Libertarian
In other words, a pro-gay, pro-pot, anti-environment corporo-fascist... but at least not Republican.
