If men had babies the amount of male support for abortion would be either 99% or 100%.

I don't know what it is for women but read it was about half with more MEN than women supporting pro choice.

This question would be off the table if it was a man's right. I would go so far as to say 90% of women would support a man's right to choose. What gives ladies?

1. seven thousand years of subjugation
makes victims identify with their oppressors. Six million women died so that we now must say the word god rather than goddess. JMHO of course

2. Unfortunately men are in power positions....
and until that balance changes.......

Religion has dominated the abortion discussion and with the * cabal in power....it's getting harder and harder to talk about basic privacy rights with the White house supporting the overturning of Roe Vs Wade....

Also, if you pay attention to the media...most if not half of the anti-choice crowd are men....We need outspoken pro-choice men to confront these anti-choice men and deal with this discusssion....

That's just my take...

10. That made me want to puke----
I find it disgusting that these women would work so hard to take this right away from other women and then claim it themselves.

And then to believe that YOUR abortion is somehow justified while every other woman who has one is a whore... it's mind-boggling...

30. when a person is beaten
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 07:09 PM by BareNakedLiberal
ones mother is murdered, along with all the other women of your town, you have no knowledge of what your mothers knew, but know that if you do not do as the person (usually a man in a red robe)---hm mm, I wonder where the image of devil came from? Sorry I digress--tells you, you could die too. During the witch burnings, old women and women of power were targeted, because they had the wisdom and of course the property. We have had many generations of reinforcement of the idea of subjugation since then. It was only in the late 1800 and early 1900's that men were no longer told to "beat their wives for their very moral souls" from the pulpit of the churches. Domestic violence claims another victim every few minutes in the U.S. Today, we still have to ask "Daddy" doctors for contraception, instead of using methods taught mother to daughter, or village wisewoman to women's classes.

Another digression, a psychological study was done with some monkeys, babies were taken from their mothers, given 2 poles, one with food and the other with a thin rug. The babies would starve in order to have some comfort of the rug. Patty Hearst and her kidnappers of the Symbionese Liberation Army was a living example of hostage/victim turned into comrade in arms through psychological torture. It is easy to understand how we got there, it is much harder to wake up, and after having awakened, not to roll back over into another deep slumber of victimhood.

Women are intelligent beings and mistakenly believe that if they are better men than men, then everything will be okay. So, working on a mistaken premise, they turn on the very ones who would open the door to their freedom and the freedom of the human race.

Okay, that's my  I hope it was coherent

12. Imprison doctors and the fathers of aborted fetuses. Fair's fair.
If you're serious, and really want people in prison for murder, then you've got to imprison the mother, the doctor and the father.

Yeah. Like that will ever happen.

16. I think you are incorrectly assuming it is men who are anti-choice.
In fact many women are anti choice (at least for other women).

I've heard of studies that indicate men tend to be more pro choice than women, looked at broadly.

Without any evidence of said studies, I'm inclined not to take anyone's word for that particular bit of irony.

24. That's okay - you needn't take my word.
But given the higher percentage of voting men than women, you might consider that a strong pro choice women's vote would be impactful, even if only a minority of men voted along those lines.

26. Here's something from the summary of findings of the Pew
Research Center (http://people-press.org/reports/display.php3?ReportID=253).

Per this study, there's very little difference between women and men on access to abortion. Women indicate a slightly higher preference for more rather than less access, except in the last category of "never permitted" in which there is more support for women then there is from men, though again only very slightly.

So this particular survey does not support the claim of men being more pro choice than women - but it does indicate that the difference between men and women on this issue not exactly one sided.

That does help to illustrate that there is no definite correlation between gender and opinion on this issue.

25. I'd suggest considering that it's not a male/female issue, but
a personal-autonomy/control issue.

There are men, and women, who consider personal autonomy a vice.

And don't forget, their desired reach into your life isn;t limited to abortion. They want to prohibit homosexuality too.

At times it's not even a conservative/liberal split, as on certain issues like pornography you find liberals who are as determined as cons to control or prevent others choices.

18. People pleasing, DADDY pleasing
Too many women are afraid of their own sexuality and think that supporting abortion would be tantamount to saying they were bad girls who liked the dirty sex.

28. She was a wise woman.
For those who feel there's been 'male bashing' connected with this subject, I submit to you all that the laws against abortion, along with a woman's right to own property and to vote, were the laws of men. Those men who tried (and are still trying) so hard to keep us as second class citizens are the 'men' we refer to in our complaints. Unless you have a vagina, this isn't really a personal issue.
