GOP bill presses benefit cuts for injured workers
COLUMBUS - Democrats are seeking to delay a GOP-backed bill to slash the amount of time injured employees receive workers' compensation wage payments while looking for jobs from nearly four years to one.
State Rep. Dan Stewart (D., Columbus) yesterday urged the House State Government Committee not to vote on the bill as expected today.
We are seeing hundreds of millions of dollars, perhaps over a billion, in lost investments, outright theft, and overpaying hospitals," said Mr. Stewart. "And then we're looking at reducing benefits or increasing the stringent level at which injured workers can receive workers' compensation benefits. ... How could there not be a connection?"
