Conservative views left out of recipe

Edward C. Osborne

Re Ralph De La Cruz's Feb. 28 column, "Free Speech: Can't have cake and eat it, too": It is interesting that Mr. De La Cruz bemoans the cookie sales of conservative Republican students, but makes no mention of the unrestrained liberalism of today's universities. Over 87 percent of university professors identify themselves as liberal. Seems like a lack of ideological balance to me.

He also doesn't mention that conservatives like Ann Coulter and David Horowitz are physically attacked, shouted down and prevented from presenting their points of view in, of all places, a university, a supposed bastion of "free speech" and "intellectual inquiry."

Mr. De La Cruz also bemoans the fact that "affirmative action has basically been gutted by two decades of court rulings." The simple fact is that if discrimination was wrong against blacks, women (women a minority?) and other minorities, it is also wrong against the white majority: especially white males, remember the Bakke Case! Ah, but white males were the ones responsible for all the oppression in America.

Equality of opportunity means just that, equality for all Americans, including white males, not just the members of the liberal elite's victimization groups. Equal opportunity should simply be based on talent, ability and need.

4. It's hard for a straight, white male from a wealthy family to make it in
this world. Don't SWWM (Straight White Wealthy Men) deserve a support group or something? As always, they'll be pushed to the bottom, stepped on and passed over for jobs and college. But someday, the SWWM will overcome. And someday, perhaps America will be ready for a SWWM President!

Ok, I'm back from delusional land now!

Proof the SWWM perhaps need a little discrimination:

5. College profs are "liberal" because they're educated...
The more knowledge you have, the less simplistic the world looks.

And as far as "racism against white males" goes, all I have to say about that is that our society rewards advantage first and foremost--and it doesn't necessarily hurt US white males that our disadvantages aren't written all over us--in the shape of our bodies or the color of our skin.

Doesn't necessarily mean we're handed the keys to the city when we're born though. Just means we have one or two less negatives to work against than women or people of color.

6. they're also paid less than comparable industry jobs
The conservative mindset doesn't often allow for taking a job that pays less, just because you like it, or feel that you might just make a difference.

12. and conservatives didn't want to teach in college
because it wasn't enough MONEY. So now they whine because THEY made choices not to go into higher education, and the rest of us are supposed to provide concessions for their CHOICES in order to provide "balance" of opinions - which is bogus, because there are no shortages of conservative opinions around society, are there?

My local newspaper publishes TWO whole liberal columns a week, and the rest of the paper is filled with right wing mantras. The television networks are filled with Republican pundits, but few liberals are around. We've seen the idea of "conservative" balance. Control and exclusion. They just censor and claim "morality" as their excuse.

8. I have seen way too many articles talking about the politics
of these Professors.. My fear is that their freedom of speech at the University is about to be squelched. Different methods of duress should do it. Just threaten their job, their tenure, their name... Whatever it takes so we can mold these young minds according to the adminsitration....

15. Yeah, I see more and more such articles, too
It frightens me also. You notice their contradiction, though? They cry that universities are liberal and then express outrage at supposed squelching of Free Speech. What, only Conservative are entitled to Freedom of Speech?

They think they can be Nazis and everyone should just shutup about it.

Wrong again, kemosabe.

Lets see what Michael Moore gets at some right wing college.

13. Someone down there needs to write a LTTE
asking this white boy if he could explain how white men came to discover, oh, some 150 years into this nation's history, that discrimination was "wrong." Or did they just figure it out now that they pretend it is fashionable to discriminate against them?

14. And Most NASCAR Fans Are Repugnican
and more Mormons are Repugnican and White Supremecists. So?

This bullshit plays good with those who have an overall disdain for education. This just reflects how the right wing is scared of educations that lead to open minds.
