Military Wives Get Training but NO PAY :
The Command Master Chief Spouse Leadership Course is modeled after the Command Spouse Leadership Course, which was established in 1997 to capitalize on the positive impact the spouses of commanding officers may have on a command. This course seeks to do the same with the spouses of command senior enlisted leaders. Developers for the two courses will work together closely on the curriculum so that all members of the Command Support Team have the tools to pursue the same goal within a command.

2. Should they?
I was in the military for 8 years. My wife was with me the entire time, but never felt as though she deserved a paycheck.

5. But aren't REQUIRED to
They don't have to do shit if they don't want to. I've known plenty of senior officers' wives who keep their distance from the military. They never held tea parties, or other social functions, they never entertained dignitaries, or any of that other stuff.

I don't belive the spouses of officers should be paid for these things.

4. It has always been a volunteer exercise
Same with command ombudsmen, and commanding/executive officer's spouses.

The course is OFFERED, not mandatory. They get invitational travel orders and per diem. They network; after the lectures, it's a pretty fun time, all in all. CMCs, along with CO and XO spouses, often get designated housing and a number of perks--they're in the public eye as a result of their spouses' positions, and it really is a good idea for the spouses to know what they are talking about....because they WILL be asked.

That said, I had a CMC who left his wife at home--he was a geographical bachelor, because she made way more money than he did, and was running a successful business. They visited a lot!
