Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, today:

I will say this about Iran. They are currently putting people into Iraq to do things that are harmful to
the future of Iraq. And we know it.


Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Peter Pace, moments later:

PACE: The most recent reports have to do with individuals crossing the border into Iraq.

QUESTION: Do you believe it’s backed by the government or are they individual elements not backed by the
central government?

PACE: I do not know.

1. Gen. Pace has turned out to be a bit of a disappointment after he

courageously slapped down Rumsfeld in the press conference stating unequivicably that if US soldiers see abuse going on they have a duty to TRY and stop it.

Or maybe his pension or retirement was threatened!

Or maybe they threatened to court martial him for "adultery" for that affair he had with some Captain 35 years ago!
