Eruption Vesuvius

Scientists Warn of a Vesuvius Eruption

NAPLES, Italy, March 7 (UPI) -- U.S. and Italian scientists are warning the next eruption of Mount Vesuvius might be significantly more deadly than Italian authorities expect.
Current Italian plans call for the evacuation of as many as 600,000 people from Naples, but the researchers say as many as 3 million people might be at risk.

Vesuvius is best known for its eruption in 79 A.D. that destroyed the Roman city of Pompeii. Modern plans for the evacuation of Naples are based on a similar-sized eruption, the BBC reported Tuesday.

1. It will be unless those harmonic quakes start early enough
to get everybody out of the area. The next one is likely to be a bad one.

2. How interesting. My partner was just at Pompeii yesterday...
Talked with him today and he said it was more fascinating than he thought it would be, and he was expecting it to be pretty damned interesting. I'll have to print this out and share with him when he returns from Italy later this week.

3. Funny, not ten minutes ago
I started thinking about taking a trip to southern Italy, see Pompeii and all. Is this a bad omen? Or just a way to feed my paranoia about leaving home?

4. Great. Just Great.
Three guesses who the Navy Reserve is sending to Naples for two weeks in May.
