DeLay Wins Four-Way Battle for Nomination

Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas, leaves his office on Capitol ...
SUGAR LAND, Texas - Rep. Tom DeLay won the GOP nomination to the House on Tuesday, beating three challengers in his first election since he was indicted and forced to step aside as majority leader.

With 14 percent of precincts reporting, DeLay had 10,005 votes, or 64 percent. His closest challenger, environmental attorney Tom Campbell, had 4,049 votes, or 26 percent.

"I have always placed my faith in the voters, and today's vote shows they have placed their full faith in me," DeLay said in a statement. "Not only did they reject the politics of personal destruction, but they strongly rejected the candidates who used those Democrat tactics as their platform."

In the other big Texas primary race, a former Democratic congressman from Houston won the right to challenge Republican Gov. Rick Perry in a state where the GOP holds every statewide office.

2. Umm, how many people live in TX-22
And how many are people who, like us, hate the Republicans enough to not bother voting in their primary

3. Howard Fineman on Olbermann tonight said that under 50% would
mean DeLay was "toast" in the general.

But it look like he could probably win in November! JEEESH!!

5. What makes you think the election was honest?
Texas has lots of Diebold machines, y'know.

7. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING makes me think it was honest. Good point,
but the people who voted for him are still idiots.

8. I'm not sure where I heard it today, but
the caller was from Texas and said that you don't have to be a republican to vote in the republican primary. He was considering voting for delay so that the democrat candidate might have a better change of winning. A discussion ensued and I had to turn it off so I don't know what the entire take was.

9. It would've been much sweeter to see him ditched tonight though...
Than to wait until November.

Sugarland, WTF is wrong with you?

10. It may work. My sister does that in Virginia. She's a Dem and votes in
the repuke primaries for the easiest guy/gal to beat in the GE. Lets hope there's more people in Texas who hate him than in Sugarland, but I've been told they vote on evoting machines so this is just a taste of what's to come.

11. Pfffft. Good. I can't wait to see him crash and burn in November.
It's no surprise to me that he won. Even the most corrupt assholes will win their own primary as an incumbant. Hell, as much as I hate to admit it, even Lieberman has a chance at winning his primary.
