Got this in an e-mail
"Pres. Bush has asked to repeal the rights of Wicca to be acknowledged as a Religion. We have very few signatures. Please sign to support Wiccan rights."

http://new.petitiononline.com/woab360/petition.html

To make claim that this is not a religious group is to deny them their first amendment rights which is the foundation upon which the United States is based on.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

As I and others have explained re: this e-mail, this is a non-issue right now. It is in reference to comments Bush made several years ago and involves NOTHING going on in congress right now. It's an unwarranted distraction and nothing else.

Just thought it was interesting that someone was doing this NOW.

1. How does this bumbling idiot have enough time to go after such
tiny little details? * doesn't like Wicca? He doesn't read. Doesn't think. How could his brain ever come up with this? Does he have a team that just goes around and find ways to antagonize people?

3. I am fed up with the Christian Right
trying to wipe out all other forms of belief and practice by having them declared "invalid", bullying their beliefs into law/school policy, trying to have their faith declared the "official state faith" (and have practitioners of other belief systems persecuted no less), and so on.

I tried to sign the petition but it wouldn't work for me. I'll give it a try another time.

4. I wouldn't necessarily worry about it...
I do think it's a non-starting issue.

As I told the people on the list, if it ain't on DU, it ain't news.

;)
