!?!?!? look who pushed the SD abortion ban !?!?!?!?!
http://www.talk2action.org/story/2006/3/8/05449/94742

....

Back in South Dakota, prominent anti-choice activist Leslee Unruh, founder of the Abstinence Clearinghouse and director of the Alpha Center (a crisis pregnancy center in Sioux Falls) has been an ardent supporter of the total abortion ban, and responded to the news that Rounds had signed it into law by burbling, "It's party time today. ... "I'm smiling. I am so happy. I want to thank God, and I want to thank Governor Rounds."

....

Abstinence Cleaaringhouse founder Leslee Unruh has close ties to the pro-life establishment. She spent most of the '80s protesting outside abortion clinics and encouraging people to protest outside the homes of physicians who provide abortions. She also started a "crisis pregnancy center" in Sioux Falls, S.D., about which there were so many complaints that the governor had her investigated. Unruh pleaded no contest to unlicensed adoption and foster care practices as part of a plea bargain in which 19 charges, including four felonies, were dropped. The charges resulted from Unruh's promises to pay teenagers if they remained pregnant so she could put their babies up for adoption. Tim Wilka, one of the state's attorneys at the time, explained, "There were so many allegations about improper adoptions being made and how teenage girls were being pressured to give up their children," he says. "Gov. George Mickelson called me and asked me to take the case."

But Governor Mickelson isn't sitting in Pierre anymore, and if Governor Rounds and the Unruhs have their way, it appears that before long there will be lots and lots more babies available for adoption in South Dakota.

And much more than you ever really wanted to know about the people behind the anti-abortion bills in both SD and MS (with pictures!!!!).

Edited on Wed Mar-08-06 02:03 AM by BattyDem
Hmm ... I'd love to "clear house" on all those abstinence/anti-choice bastards! :grr:

Why don't they "clear" their OWN houses and leave ours alone!

2. Ah, babies for sale
Hey South Dakota girls, this Unruh woman wishes you to serve as an incubator so she can sell the baby and and she can get a commission. Maybe she sells real estate also?

3. Oh, I'm sure the big line of business getting ready to go to SD has just
gotten a little shorter.

These people are idiots. SD is a huge state with a declining population and little base in business.

It's got some things going for it, without a doubt, but one of them IS NOT this idiotic action.

Who the heck would locate their business there. You only attract a certain type of employee, one who can tolerate this Taliban shit. That's not to say they're lousy employees, but you have a heck of a time getting anybody else to go. Since the extremist faction of the country is about 25%, that cuts off 75% of the people willing to relocate.

How many of the best and brightest in that state will now be sure to leave? Quite a few, without a doubt.

Who wants to live in place dominated politically by a mean spirited attitude and a death wish for women simply because they want an abortion.

Crazy, crazy, crazy. They'll reap the rewards.

Look for Sturgis to drop 20-30% in attendance. What a shame it all is.

33. If the bikers I correspond with by email are any indication
it'll be a hell of a lot more than 30%. Bikers are, in general, pretty live-and-let-live; extra rules bug 'em (look at the helmet/no helmet flap). The outrage is not so much against anti-choicers as it is "keep your hands off my bod". Many have also said SD is getting, over the years, less and less friendly toward the Sturgis gathering, regardless of the millions of dollars it brings to the economy yearly. I know my group is certainly backing a boycott. SD has lost the respect of the biking demographic - first their Senator Janklow kills a biker and practically walks away, now they want to control women's bodies? No way.

Not even the Black Hills are worth it.

Eat your heart out, South Dakota. This loaded Roadie will never hit your highways.

4. "Abortion Bill favored by Adoption Mill"
And there it is. The illegal money angle.
You never have to look very deep to find festering corruption
with these people.
It is ALWAYS there. Always.

"Unlicensed adoption" is just a bullshit way of saying "SELLING BABIES".
You don't think she was paying those teenage girls out of the goodness
of her heart, do you?
Any idea how many THOUSAND$ a healthy white infant fetches
on the illegal adoption market?

32. How interesting...

I had thought it was so obvious nobody ever talked about it. To the TB (true believer) crowd, any birth control is an abortifascent. If sperm and egg are even in the same neighborhood, preventing their get together or preventing the implantation of a zygote is de facto murder. Carried to the logical end, the only acceptable tool is abstinence.

Sex, then, is not to be enjoyed. It is intended only for the creation of new life, so sport fucking is out. This neatly solves all the problems of abortion, most STDs, on and on-ad nauseum.
Of course, these paragons of social engineering manage to completely neglect human reality. Probably the only way out, permanently, will come when females evolve, either naturally or chemically, to be able to be in estrus by choice.

This is probably the only solution that might make the nosy bastards happy: that women would be infertile except for planned pregnancy and everybody does a "just say 'no'" the rest of the time.
Sounds like masturbation may make a comeback! (pun intended) Or perhaps a society is in the offing wherein homosexuality is the preferred arrangement.
Perhaps a sort of Quaker society, although I seem to recall that they were also anti-war.

6. So this is the bottom line.
Babies for sale. Never would have thought of that in a million years, but leave it to some sleaze body to think of it and then legislate to ensure their "profit". This is sickening. Totally beyond base. I cannot even speak right now. I'm spitting.

11. Yeah, it's sickening
They've talked themselves into thinking making a profit from stealing babies of innocent girls is a good entrepreneurial venture. It's the new GOP way. Hold the man harmless, dump the mother, and profit from the sale of the baby.

9. It's not "pro-life" it's ANTI-CHOICE. It's also a loud, clear signal
that the state government of South Dakota considers women to be a type of chattel. The decision relegates women to broodmare status.

This is theocratic fundamental fascism at its worst. The majority of Americans believe in CHOICE. The minority is against a woman's right for reproductive freedom and has forced their beliefs upon the rest of us.

So I email and try to call the next day. This Unruh broad has figured out a way to sell babies and make a living from the commissions. What a total failure she is to pregnant women seeking help.

And raise 10 kids on her own with $800 a month. We'll see how hardcore pro-life she'll be once that's done. Of course, that will, unfortunately, never happen.

please explain.

I cannot believe in this day that people are still into selling babies. But there you have it loud and clear. I got mine the old fashioned way, and it wasn't easy. I feel for people who want a baby. But please, people. We are talking about human life. Slavery is like not something we do anymore.

but gawed forbid stem cell research .. okay. pull that one out of a hat.
