US Plans to Open Representative Office in Iran - First time in 25 years
http://www.turkishweekly.net/news.php?id=27407

The United States administration is likely to open a representative office in Iran in the near future, said Ross Wilson, the US Ambassador to Ankara. snip

A couple of weeks ago, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said that some American diplomatic representative offices would undergo a restructuring process.

Wilson added to the statements made by Rice and said that the US administration is considering opening an agency in Iran, where the American government has not had any representatives for over 25 years.

The intention to open such an office, Wilson said, will improve relations, increase our knowledge of Iran and gain a deeper understanding of what is going on in the country.

2. This is the most confusing shit I have heard in YEARS!
Cheney & Rumsfeld are saber rattling and Condi is calling for a diplomatic OFFICE in Tehran? Does Iran get a say in any of this? Or is there ONLY propaganda in the Turkish press and they know nothing about what we have been threatening Iran about?

I AM CONFUSED! :silly:

3. There's no resident diplomatic cover in Iran for US intelligence.

I doubt if the Iranians are going to agree to this. After all, they did term the US Embassy under the Shah, "The Nest of Spies", before they closed it down in 1979. Who can disagree?
