What is the Falafel Master?
I'm not a native, nor is English my primary language, but can someone please explain to me why Bill O'Reilly is called the Falafel master? What is Falafel anyway? Thanks!

1. Falafel is fried chickpea patties
O'Reilly in a sex tape misused the word. He meant to say luffa, as in the sponge.

It conjures up some disturbing images.

29. Spelled loofa. I only know that because I'm girly.
OH MY GOD! That's what he said!

I thought he had some kind of kink about falafel, but that is even funnier. AH!

"Now...now...grab your falafel from the shower and put some liquid soap in it. Oh, yeah baby. That's it."

number 78.

apparently, while discussing how he would pleasure his unwilling victim (who was NOT his wife) with a loofah, Mr. O'Reilly get... erm... uh... carried away

(perhaps with the vibrator he has "shaped like a cock with a little battery in it" http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/1013043mackris14.html)

and refers to said loofah as a 'falafel'.

For the record:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falafel

<snip>
Falafel (Arabic: فلافل (falaafil (help·info)) Hebrew: פלאפל (falafel)), also known in Egypt as ta`amiyya (Arabic طعمية), is a fried ball or patty of spiced fava beans or chickpeas. It is a highly popular form of fast food in the Arab East. Falafel is also very common in Israel, being regarded there as a national food. The word "falafel" comes from the Arabic word فلفل (filfil), meaning pepper, and probably ultimately from Sanskrit pippalī.

5. Bill O'Reilly likes to make obscene and harassing phone calls
to female coworkers. You can find the lurid details
at the Smoking Gunn.
He describes rubbing a woman's body with a loofah sponge.
He calls it a falafel.

6. oh lord...
Bill was making lewd phone calls to a female producer on his show. He was describing how he would take her in the shower and massage her body with a loofah. Ok, he was getting pretty graphic and totally into it when he said that he'd grab the "falafel", he meant loofah but he's an idiot, and massage her breasts etc. So, a loofah is a sponge often used in the shower, for soaping up and so on. Well, a falafel is an Arabic food, which is a ground mixture of spicy vegetables, like chickpeas, and made into a patty then fried. Bill got too excited to tell the difference evidently. :)

7. I'm almost tempted to not horrify you with this information
This is one of the few times I truly believe ignorance is bliss. BUT, I'm a big believer in choice and since you choose to ask, then the answer you shall have. :) By the way, welcome to DU!

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/1013043mackris16.html

Falafel is in the last paragraph. I recommend reading while drinking heavily...that way, when you pass out, there's less of a chance you'll remember when you wake up.

8. The Falafel Factor -- lol -- read all about it.
I would post a verbatim excerpt here of O'Reilly's soliloquy on loofas and falafels, but it would probably get deleted for obscenity. You can read the now-infamous transcript at this link:

10. Your command of English is excellent. Welcome to DU!
Since you are in/from the Netherlands, perhaps you can give us a few facts about how much of Holland is below sea level, and what is the current state of your dike system to protect your country from flooding. Has there been discussion in the media in Holland of the differences between the protection in place for your country and the levees in New Orleans?

13. As a matter of fact
there has been some discussion. As you can imagine, we receive a lot of our news stories from overseas, so we get basically the same news stories you get. And since our little country has battled with the water and the seas for so long, the New Orleans story drew big attention here. In fact, we had a huge flooding disaster in 1953 that killed almost 2000 people.

That sparked far reaching measures to hold back the sea, resulting in the construction of massive sea barriers. Our coastal line is mixed, the south has the lowest points and have inlets, these have the largest barriers. When the sea level rises too much, they close and can hold back several tens of feet of floodwater.
These protective measures are very costly and have to be maintained closely. As you can imagine, they really require funding at the federal level, and thats exactly what we did. If you want to learn more, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta_Works and related sites. I can't offer you much more info, because I'm abit shamed to admit I don't know much about it ;)

But from what I saw of the New Orleans catastrophe, the protective measures in place, the levees, seemed rather improvised and by far not at all of what could have been possible!

The lowest point in the netherlands is nearly 7 meters (~18 feet) below sea level. A significant portion of our westlands are below sealevel, but more towards the east near the german border it gets higher. Of course, high is relative, because the biggest 'mountains' in my neighbourhood are 60meters high. It really is very flat here.

Thanks by the way for the compliment ;)

17. Your English is certainly nothing to apologize for!
It's excellent, and far superior to my command of your language, which is essentially nil, like most Americans. ;-)

Most of what I know about the Netherlands comes from having read Riddle of the Sands! How pathetic is that?! Then again, I DO know rather a lot about the Friesian coastal islands! hahaha!

26. From what I see around me and read about in the papers
It appears that holland is quite receptive to immigrants. They must be financially capable so to not immediatly draw from state funds, but mastery of our language is not a prerequisite.

You know, I follow the situation in the USA very closely, since it pays such an important part in our politics and world wide. The entire medicare situation made me realize just how fortunate we are with our healthcare system. To give you an example, here in holland, the healthcare costs roughly $70 a month, but everything is covered. So whatever happens to you, dentist, surgery, no matter, everything is covered.

I am sure the embassay can tell you more about immigration procedures.

Well, good luck ;)

32. I did some biking there in 1996
I really didn't need all the 21 speeds on my bike. I appreciated very much the road accomodations for bicycles, and admired how Dutch bikers go rolling along steering the bike with one hand and carrying something in the other. I actually made a list of what I saw.

Lots of ordinary things that you'd expect--
flowers
briefcase/totebag
umbrellas
cell phone

And others that surprised me--
6 feet of plastic plumbing pipe
balancing a cat in a carrier on the front baggage rack
balancing a dog in a carrier on the rear baggage rack
balancing a 4-foot wide round table on the front baggage rack
dragging a really big bag of yard waste
cattle prods (no kidding! out in the country, bike-riding Dutch cowboys urging their cattle to get back to the barn for the evening milking)

I also thought it was cool the way cyclists often pick up hitchhikers. See a friend, stop the bike, friend sits on the rear luggage rack with arm around the biker's waist, and off they go.

I tried to improve my language-tape level Dutch, but most peoples' English was so good that I didn't make too much progress.

Those Who Trespass, by Bill O'Reilly.

The clips that are played are from the Audiobook version read by none other than Mr. Bill O'Reilly.

The book was okay, but it would be much better if an underaged girl got raped by a bear!!!

I've seen the famous video of him with Glick, and its simply mind blowing. But reading all this stuff about his abuse of power and harrasing coworkers that way, beyond words... Why doesn't Fox fire him? Sure, his ratings might be good, but Mr. Fox Newsman have you at long last no sense of decency?

I mean, the man is totally gross and disgusting, but  What a pig!

Those of us who can get Keith Olbermann's news/commentary on MSNBC have been following along as he teases O'Reilly. Watching KO sing "Happy Days Are Here Again" was really choice -- O'Reilly started a petition to get rid of Olbermann....

Oh, and welcome to DU.
