The ABC News story on the "provocative" / "harm and pain" statement from Iran goes (in part) like this:
"Iran Threatens U.S. With 'Harm and Pain'
By GEORGE JAHN
VIENNA, Austria Mar 8, 2006 (AP)— Iran threatened the United States with "harm and pain" Wednesday for its role in hauling Tehran before the U.N. Security Council over its nuclear program.
The White House dismissed the rhetoric out of Tehran." http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=1700494Scott McClellan:
"I think that provocative statements and actions only further isolate Iran from the rest of the world." John Bolton:
"Their threats show why leaving a country like that with a nuclear weapon is so dangerous." Look in the mirror much, John?!
I'm sure everyone in the White House forgot what "context" was a long time ago. But the people (I hope)... and ABC News (doubtful) have retained SOME common sense?
First of all, the full statement read
"The United States has the power to cause harm and pain. But the United States is also susceptible to harm and pain. So if that is the path that the U.S. wishes to choose, let the ball roll." Bush and the White House have been, both implicitly and explicitly, threatening Iran for years now. This statement is simply a response to those threats.
It was BUSH who branded Iran as one of the "Axis of Evil".
It was BUSH who invaded, conquered and occupied the first member of that Axis - Iraq.
It is BUSH who has used nearly identical language and tactics about Iran as he did about Iraq before we invaded.
It is BUSH who has consistently made the point that "all options" are open against Iran.
Isn't starting a war of choice against a nation that posed no threat "provocative"?
Really, it's
obvious who's been making provocative statements and actions regarding that part of the world for the past few years. And it's not Iran.
