57-43 in favor... I just don't get America's tolerance of the death penalty. We're the only so-called Western country with it, but yet we still have the highest murder rates of any of them. It's never worked.

This is because of that terrible torture & murder of that woman not long ago, isn't it?

I'm anti-death penalty but watching that news segment made me kind of start wanting it. I had to really stop and think about what was making me want that and of course I had to come back to my conclusion that no, I don't really think it's my place (via the state) to kill someone else even in a horrific instance like this one was. What I'd like to see a poll of in regards to this crime are ones dealing with the prison system, or education, or jobs. Didn't the guy who apparently committed this crime spend something like a decade in prison for a crime he didn't commit? Then he comes out and does this? I'm not saying the two are directly related since I don't know what kind of a guy this fuckhead was before being wrongfully incarcerated for a decade, but I'm sure being in prison when he shouldn't have been didn't do him any favors in the "well-adjusted happy camper" department.

The whole thing is disgusting.

John McCaffry in 1851. People were angered over the carnival-like atmosphere of his execution, and decided to abolish the death penalty as a result. (That an the fact that a severe thunderstorm rolled in shortly after McCaffry was pronounced dead helped things along, as well.)
