1. Yep. A little tougher to bomb the shit out of them in the NFZ
and get away with it, too!

One thing the media rarely, if ever, mentions about Iraq...where were the Iraqi air force and planes???

They'ld been blown to smitherines prior to crossing in from Kuwait.

2. There is no way our military could fight in an Iraqi - Iranian war
simultaneously.

The only way they could confront Iran is bombs. What kind they will use? These people are nuts and they have the big one, you tell me.

3. Yeah, we've done so well imposing our will in Iraq . . .
We can take all that experience, shiny new equipment, and endless supply of hoo-ah and apply it -- with certainty of success -- to Iran.

No sweat.

5. We aren't trying to take the whole thing.
Just the part Iraq and Iran were fighting over. At least that's the rumor.

9. Interesting demonstration of how closeDubai is to Iran too!
YOu know, those guys Shrub want's to let control out ports!!!!

I really don't know the answer to this, but I wonder what the relationship is between the UAE and Iran?

I used to work for a company that bought most of it's products from Dubai. I met the salesmen, and they really were nice guys. But that doesn't tell me the positions of their gov't.

10. Since we're clearing up possible misconceptions about Iran
...I'd like to point out that Iranians aren't Arab. Most of them are of Indo-European descent. (Persians and Azeris make up the largest portion of the ethnically diverse populace.)

So basically if you're up for another war against an Arab country, Iran isn't the place.

16. You're right.
But the Azeris are Turkic. At least by language.

Persians, Kurds, Baluchis ... with this later admixture of Turkic tribes and Arabs.

The previous folk's genes survive on ... their cultural legacy and language, gone.

12. Looking at that map, it occurred to me that...
... the maniacs who have taken over our government have done the grim calculus of war and concluded that we face no nuclear threat in the region and could probably attempt a massive conventional strike with no WWIII-scale repercussions. Although the Russians are friendly with Iran, they're in no position to side with Iran militarily. The only real wild-card would be China and I'm willing to bet there are some behind-the-scenes discussions with the Chinese about divvying up Iran's energy assets should hostile action occur.

20. And Iran is well aware of how beaten down the US military is
Our military has become a fragile, tired, overworked, overstressed, giant. Bush has literally made this country as vulnerable as its ever been. If a major power wanted to invade us and take our country, this would be the perfect time. Were weak right now. Everythings overworked and in dire need of maintenence, troops and the machinery of war. Moneys as tight as a drum because all those billions are going into security in Iraq and useless star wars stealth bombers.
