OMG! If you knew how conservative this town was....
You'd be shocked and amazed too!

http://www.vagazette.com/

the mandatory random drug testing for high school students (those who register drive to school or wish to participate in extracurricular activities) in Williamsburg/James City County, VA (my home town) has been a community HOT POTATO for several months. I am dancing the jig of jigs right now because it sure looked like it was going to go "their way"...AGAIN. Check out the last minute change to the bill.... and remember this could happen in your town too.

PLEASE ALSO Check out my LTTE in response to a few freepers who voiced their opinion at the meeting (I know this isn't necessarily a freep/lib issue, but I am of the opinion that anytime the state wants to curtail civil liberties in the name of "protecting the children"... OK, I take it back...it is a freep/lib issue):

Dear Editor,

I applaud the WJCC school board for doing the right thing when they passed the voluntary drug test compromise. I must, however take issue with the opposition and their indignant reaction to the outcome. Some of their comments indicate they feel the school board was swayed by what I can only assume were the "liberal elite". Such a fallacy this is. I 'd love to meet these elitists amongst the sea of "W" stickers in this town.

I would offer that the school board was swayed by the conservative elements in this town when they first decided to moved forward on the issue. I find it interesting how when the shoe is on the other foot, they cry foul. I suppose this behavior is typical of citizens in the throws of political passion.

So now we have Ms. Penelope Worthington (or whatever, they all have the same name) trying to start a petition to elect, not appoint, the school board so she can make sure that those of her ilk are the only ones who remain truly free in America. She can't stand the fact that people (even children!) shouldn't be compelled to incriminate themselves. Too bad it doesn't occur to her and Mr. Vaught that some members of the school board and the anti-drug test faction may have actually read 1984, BRAVE NEW WORLD, A HANDMAID'S TALE...and the BILL OF RIGHTS.

Sincerely,

Mike *****

6. Which is funny, cuz those are the kids least likely
to be doing drugs... They have enough on their plate... The stoners usually don't go out for extra curricular activities.....
