Any economist worth a damn would tell you straight-faced that you're going to implode if you don't get the budget deficits under control, don't address the national debt, don't do anything to encourage savings, and don't do anything to address the trade deficit.

This is not sustainable at all. Eventually, what will happen is parts of society, mainly the poorest among us, will be cut off and told, "You're on your own; we have too many problems in Washington to come to your aid."

It'll be our equivalent of Rome abandoning its outer provinces to fend for themselves against Germanic invaders.
