How will Bush and the Republicans counter the FALLING polls?
I think there will be two separate strategies. The Bush White House will keep doing whatever it pleases, not admitting anything could possibly be wrong. To the freeper base and to some others, this will appear "strong".

The Repugs in Congress on the other hand have to run this year. I think we will see more things like the Dubai vote, pitting Repugs against the White House to prove to the public that they are "independent", "ethical".

This way, the freepers voting "brand name Bush" will vote their emotions (the Repug ticket), and more moderate Republicans will perceive their individual representatives and Senators to be independent enough from the White House so that they don't need to vote Democrat "just to balance things out."

Thoughts?

3. I have been seeing this as a Rovian, fake dispute, since it first
hit the news. Probably was plotted at the secret meeting a short while back, just before the story broke.

4. I made the same point, as did many others, Yet many others here...
disputed it. I think it helps to be extremely cynical about EVERYTHING these days. I would put nothing, absolutely nothing, past our current cast of "governing" criminals.

6. Me too.
Rove is clever enough to think of it and the GOP is so together and unethical enough to pull it off.

9. It resembles the "McCain anti torture bill". It "allowed for an expression
of what looked like independance. only to be subverted by a signing statement which none of the Rebellious Repukes bothered to criticize.

5. They'll blame everything on Clinton
or libs, feminists, gays, "Hollywood" etc etc etc. The infrastructure is still there, and strong. Nothing has, or will, change.

12. I know that they were planning to blame Howard Dean and Hillary
for the next terrorist act. But with the Iraq civil war unfolding and the Dubai blunder, they are scurrying like rats just to see to it that THEY won't get blamed. Mark 1 for our side.
