BP Exxon Mobil & ConocoPhillips:
Initial BP reports:

21,000 GALLONS: Prudhoe Bay's sixth-largest cleanup has crews busy.

http://www.adn.com/money/story/7510267p-7421918c.html

Today it is reported:

Cleanup workers who have been at the site have recovered 56,070 gallons of an oil-water mixture, according to a Department of Environmental Conservation report issued Tuesday morning. Officials are expected to calculate the entire spill size by Wednesday, according to the department.

Yet whistleblowers claim as much as 800,000 gallons are unaccounted for:

However, whistleblowers who have access to meters which monitor flow into and out of the pipeline, say the meters show there are about 800,000 gallons missing, which will make it the second largest spill in alaska.

Yet the media is eerily silent about the entire situation...what will tommorrow bring?

7. "...the second largest spill in Alaska." "It wasn't reported"

"You didn't miss this on the news. It wasn't reported."

I have no FUCKING words... just anger and disgust. The word "news" is obsolete. No such thing. Let's just call it the Daily Vacuum.

5. I lived through the Exxon Valdez and worked on cleanup.
This ain't no way, no how, anywhere close. Cleanup is much more stringent, is begun quickly and newer techniques make for a much softer environmental impact.

Not that this excuses BP, at fault because of their refusal to upgrade and maintain their feeder lines. Nor does it lessen the fact that there is a blow to the environment, a hard one. I've travelled ANWR, the Haul Road, Prudhoe and most of the North Slope. Anywhere the oil companies touch, they make ugly.

But at least we now have the techniques to lessen the blow.
