Could Charlotte Pritt change the face of election advertising?

Meet Charlotte Pritt.



FAYETTEVILLE — Charlotte Pritt took the stand Tuesday in Fayette County Circuit Court and disputed Republican ads that she said distorted her patriotism and her beliefs when she ran for governor.

Almost nine years ago, Pritt sued three Republican organizations, alleging they libeled her when she was the Democratic nominee for governor.

Pritt told jurors she felt like someone who suffered from “a bully on the playground calling you names. This was a type of violence.”

She alluded to the current national political climate of negative ads. By filing suit, she said she hoped “we can stop this from happening in the future.” She also said she hoped to have her reputation and integrity restored.

Now, whether she wins or not, she just might have changed the way that politcal ads are created. Personally, I think she has a good chance to win this one and that would be a win for us all.

Didn't her opponents go after Charlotte's mother in a very descpicable fashion?

2. Not that I have heard ... they went after her

they said that. among other claims, she voted as a state Senator to allow the schools to "teach first graders how to use condoms" which has nothing to do with the legislation that she voted for at all.

Refused to second-guess its West Virginia counterpart's decision to restore a lawsuit filed by Charlotte Pritt, the 1996 Democratic candidate for governor, against Republican groups. The Republican National Committee had petitioned the nation's highest court in March, seeking to scuttle Pritt's defamation case. That petition was rejected. West Virginia's Supreme Court ruled 5-0 in December that a jury should decide whether TV and radio ads from the GOP-funded Victory Committee libeled Pritt during the 1996 campaign. Pritt alleges the ads cast her legislative record in a false light. Her lawsuit said voters were falsely told that she "proposed teaching first-graders about condoms," and voted to "permit the sale of pornographic videos to children" and "allow convicted drug-abusers to work in our public schools," the lawsuit said. Pritt contends the ads contributed to her loss to Republican Cecil Underwood.

3. yes, they did

she ran a small gift store in sissonville and did fortune readings. the religious right tried to depict her as as a satanist for it.

pritt was victime of the dirtiest campaign i've ever seen. king coal pulled out all the stops to make sure that a populist would not win the race. the democratic party turned on her and our current gov, 'democrat' joe manchin began to campaign for her opponent, a rightwing nutjob named cecil underwood

4. but Underwood testified FOR her this week

When I was a kid, I think the most "sexually charged" thing I ever heard my mother say was "oh, That Cecil Underwood can put his shoes under my bed". EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW She thought he was "hot"! :puke:

I hadn't heard about them doing that to her mother. That is disgusting!
