Maybe LaLa or someone can explain it to me?

Having worked as a journalist for over 10 years, the very last things I wanted when I had a great story were to:

1) Be forced to publish before it was ready.

2) Tip off any other journalist to the story.

It seems that these "teasers" fly in the face of both of those. Why the teasers? They don't add value to the community conversation. They don't add value to the final story. (In some cases, the teasers build up speculation to the point where the final story is almost a let down.)
