Ashamedly, I punched a Freeper in the piehole tonight
I am not proud of it, but I did allow myself to become physically involved with a Freeper tonight. His mistake was poking me repeatedly in the chest. I was totally exonerated by the bar staff after slapping him upside the head a few times. The police asked me if I wanted to press charges against the perpetrator. I indicated that I would be willing to let the whole matter drop if the assailant would donate time to our local womens shelter. All in all it was a very good night! Nothing like a dumbass freeper conversion to cap off an evening.

Hell, they respond to that sort of thing. I'm not anti-violence, personally. Just "senseless violence."

9. I hate violence, but poking someone repeatedly in the chest
is grounds for self-defense. One time an older man "took issue" with me (long story) and had the GALL to start doing that to me (POKING me! Can you believe people have such a nerve to touch people they don't even KNOW?!?). So I gave him a big fat SHOVE into the bar, and he went complaining to the bouncers. Guess who got kicked out? Hint: not me.

Sorry you had an altercation, and I know not everyone will agree, but kudos to you for standing up for yourself.

13. He felt obligated to butt into a conversation about the war
in Iraq that I was having with a very attractive young lady. He became very agitated with me after I told him that Smirky the Chimp and Darth Cheney lied about the reasons for going to war. He assaulted me after I observed that he wasn't dodging IED's on his way to work every day. The look on his face after a "liberal" had just punched it was priceless. He must have believed all the BS spouted by Rush that "liberals" were weak and cowardly. Surprise MoFo! It ain't exactly true. The cops that appeared indicated that they were not huge GW Bush fans either.

I think I can get a waiver and make you an 'onrey (honorary) Texan. Boy, you kicked his ass, and in front of an attractive lady to boot. Freepers often make the mistake of thinking that just because you oppose war that you are a chicken shit coward. All you have to do is look at any of the vet threads and realize more DEM's go to the defense of their country than freepers, in an astounding number. Because we understand the true cost of war and the true value of human life, we are loathe to fight. Self defense, however, is another matter. That is why the shocked expressions on their faces when ever we defend ourselves. An elephant bellows and blusters from a distance before they do a lumbering charge. You can out distance them. A donkey will take it until they have had enough (and you are foolish it get too close)and then rear back and smack you with a direct hit. You come away knowing you were hit (voice of experience). I think I'm in love...:loveya:

12. Violence sucks...
maybe you should've walked away, but it's easy for me to say that when I didn't witness the incident.

Either way, people have to stand up for themselves or get walked on by the bullies of this world. Sometimes the choice just isn't there.

Good idea in having the assailant donate his time to a woman's shelter. A little humility can go a long way.

20. For some - the cognitive dissonance between what
they have been spoon fed through the rw echo machine (faux, rush, hannity, etc.) - and the reality around them is impossible to work through and rectify... desperation to hold onto their "image" of "rightness" of the herobush is seriously destabilizing - and thus some are more likely to take their "fight" (which, I believe, is more internal than anything else) to try to block out having to wake to the reality that they have been deceived (not only by their politiicians, but by their fav. media folks, and sometimes by those at the pulpit in their churches). Desperation. Projection of anger. I would guess that this situation (of folks taking out their anger, physically) will escalate a bit more as the wheels even more clearly come off the bushco machine.

One thing for sure the original post conveyed the message that "Vinnie" defended himself only to the point of making the other person back off. He then had the good sense to back off himself and leave the other person with dignity in tact. I applaud that!!:hi:  :yourock:

I'm pretty much a turn the other cheeker... all high and mighty... But, even peaceful mdmc, mister peace and low stress, has been know to rough up some bullies and thugs, when the situation presented itself.

I have a philosophy, no pain... no pain.

Once a freeper (a rich little thug, actually) date drugged a friend of mine at a bar. We caught this guy trying to "load" this chick into his car. My friends knocked out a couple of his teeth, and then we destroyed his car. Perhaps we would have been better off going to the cops. If we got into legal trouble, then we would have definitely been better off going to the cops. That being said, there is a very satisfying sound that a bully's ribs make when they snap... but I digress.

Peace and low stress! No war!

62. I got a tale for you
I used to work with at risk (at risk of going to juvie or to a psych hospital) teens. One day, a teenage girl and her (adult) advocate came in to my office to visit. My client told me that she got suspended. (this girl is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, and her high school didn't want to deal with it. she was always getting suspended).
I told her it wasn't the end of the world, and asked her what had happened.
She told me that she "knocked Jamie (her friend) the fuck out!"
I paused.
I told her that I was willing to do whatever it took to keep her out of juvie, and that she was a great girl that needed to get some help dealing with the shit that she had gone through.
I told her that I no longer wanted her to get into physical altercations. I told her that this was unladylike and that I could not tolerate it from her in the future (this, by the way, was a lie. I was always fighting for this chick to stay out of juvie...just so y'all know). I asked her advocate what her thoughts were on this issue.
Her (adult) advocate didn't miss a beat. "Yo. When I was your age, I used to FUCK bitches up if they messed with me!" My mouth dropped. I waited for her to continue, hopefully backtrack. "there ain't no way I would let some bitch disrespect me, even now!"
It was a scene.
I let them both know where violence would lead this teen girl. Her advocate eventually sided with me.
weird wild stuff...I hope you enjoyed the tale, mtnester!:kick:

70. As a grown up, this kind of attitude is not one I advocate
As a daughter of a law enforcement officer, and having been through self defense training, there is a huge difference between being a idiot and being able to defend yourself if someone strikes first. The first rule is always try to get away, however, the second rule is to NOT get the shit beat out of you or killed while still attempting to get away.

Poking a finger into my chest would be considered an aggressive move, and would warrant a warning and a start by myself to walk away. Any further aggression is an attack which I will defend myself against.

I certainly do not consider myself to be the increasingly aggressive female youth at the tender age of 46, but I am also not defenseless if need be.

Did I enjoy your story? Of course. Did I think it had anything to do with what I was trying to say? No...Did I hopefully clarify myself? Perhaps.

Thanks!

39. Violence is never right.
Every once in a while, it becomes less odious than the available alternatives. I'm not sure that this was one of those occasions, but am at least heartened that the ultimate resolution is apparently going to be nonviolent.

54. When somebody is poking you in the chest
you have a right to stop them from continuing to do so. Absolutes such as 'violence is never right' are a bit on the silly side. Do you kill the mosquito biting you? What do you eat?

I would not have hit somebody in the face for poking me in the chest. I would probably have gone for a finger lock, making the finger poking me the point of restraint, but then again I know what a finger lock is. The use of an appropriate level of force to end a physical attack is ethical.

68. As I said, violence is sometimes less odious than the alternatives...
Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 12:28 PM by Orsino
...such as being bitten by a mosquito, or starving (to use your examples).

I admire a truly minimal use of force, and realize it's not always possible to make what I might call the "best" decision in the heat of the moment. Without having witnessed the events in question, I can still say that pushing the finger away would have been less violent, and stood a non-zero chance of accomplishing the task at hand.

That an all-out brawl seems not to have erupted, and that a peaceful resolution has apparently resulted, are not the worst possible outcomes.

I won't praise striking someone, nor will I praise slapping a mosquito or eating a steak, as I don't see any of these things as a right. But I won't chew anyone out for having had a hasty decision forced (or nearly so) upon him. It may be that no other possible reaction could have resolved things any "better."

Did the original poster feel at the time that the risk of turning his/her back (in loss of face or fear of violence) was unacceptable?

41. Some on the right actually believe that all progressives are pacifists
Not true.

Sometimes the awakening can be rude.

I'm just glad no one got hurt. I think he's gonna think twice before putting his hands on anyone like that again.

46. Why be ashamed?
I do not think violence should be used as a matter of fact on a regular basis, but as far as I am concerned, crossing your physical boundary and putting his hands on you gives you the legal right to defend yourself.

Don't be ashamed, I would have left him unconscious on the floor.

There is a great progressive band named SPEARHEAD.
Some of my favorite song lyrics by them goes like this:
"A piece a piece for you
a piece a piece for me
a piece a piece for every peaceful person that you see.
A piece a piece for you
and a piece a piece for me,
but I don't act peaceful if you're not that way to me"

That kind of sums it up for me

his freeper ass should be going to the local recruiter. He can really show his support--by going to Iraq.

51. We've been nice for far too long! You did GOOD!
He has probably intimidated many other Liberals with his bullshit bully act and they probably figured it wasn't worth arguing about and cowered from him. He OBVIOUSLY wasn't use to being punched in the face! :yourock:

53. Good on you. Normally i'm pretty passive but i am starting to think
it's time to open up a can of whoop ass on the whole dam bunch of 'em. From one coast to the other, border to border, leave no freeper untouched. We could call it a movement.

Vinnie.

I know you don't like violence but sometimes drastic situations call for drastic measures.

57. Times like this remind of the scene in the movie
"Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story". I just love the line when he is in the gym working out and this racist prick is poking him in the chest, and Bruce says (paraphrased):

"You shouldn't touch me"

"Why?" comes the reply.

"I might touch you back".

Classic.

Good on you.

58. Poking you in the chest is assault, not to mention boorish and obnoxious
Jacking him was self-defense for you, not mention a good crash course in manners for him. Kudos!

66. They have poked and prodded us since 1996.
We have reached that point.
I'd pay money to smack a freeper. And I'm small and nonviolent. How much can we take? They have the money, guns, and prisons. We have the truth. I say good for you. Bravo. There is nothing to be ashamed of at all. It was righteous. Not aggressive. Although, violence is always aggressive. But in a righteous way. They deserve much much worse than a punch to the face. We're talking about people's lives. They just think their little phoney fact ideas are all in their heads. They aren't! They're killing and causing grief and great pain all around the planet. I say we smack each and every one of them until they cry out for the truth.
