Gallup: Bush disapproval rating highest of any president since Nixon
RAW STORY Published: March 8, 2006

More than 4 in 10 Americans strongly disapprove of the job George W. Bush is doing as president, according to the latest CNN/Gallup poll, the highest of any president except Nixon in the waning months of his presidency. Just 40 percent of Americans believe Bush can manage the country effectively; Bush registers a 38% approval rating with a 60% disapproval rating.

When Americans were asked a follow-up of whether they strongly approve or disapprove of Bush, more than twice as many Americans say they strongly disapprove (44%) as say they strongly approve (20%) of Bush. The strong disapproval rating is the highest Gallup has measured for Bush by a percentage point, and is the highest for any president since Richard Nixon during the Watergate era.

Nixon is the only other president to register strong disapproval ratings above 40% in Gallup Polls. Nixon had a 48% strong disapproval rating in February 1974, and a 46% rating days before he resigned from office in August 1974. Gallup first asked about strength of approval during the Lyndon Johnson administration, and has asked it periodically for every president since.

2. wish I could say I'm surprised...but it probably doesn't mean...
...s*** to Bush....as God wanted him to be president.
...and despite the fact that a majority of people have finally figured out what a wretched asshole he really is, Bush is getting ready to take us into a new and expanded war.
Conscription --- the draft -- here we come.

5. Yes, we have to move on
W has NO concerns for the American working class. It doesn't even enter his corporate world picture. He doesn't identify at all.

4. Nixon was at 48%? DU'ers, we can put bushboy above 50%!!
Keep organizing against the war. Tell the truth about New Orleans, about the Downing Street Memoes, about Plamegate, about all the economic war Bush is waging against working people. Keep organizing.

Bush will "excel" at being the absolutely worst President in history, as rated by the American people.

Remember, right now more people think of more highly of an alleged child molester (who was so unpopular he left the country) than they think of Cheney. We can do the same for Bush. Don't give up. Keep it up.

6. I wish Raw would re-write that headline, it still sound too positive...
...to say "...highest of any president..," I prefer the original headline from Gallup

"Forty-Four Percent of Americans Strongly Disapprove of Bush"

Only 40% say he can manage the government effectively

7. We'll see what happens and where Bush is at come November
I wonder what super-catastrophe will occur between now and then because Bush will need another 9-11 to get out of the shit he brought on himsel as they continue to find dead bodies in New Orlens!

8. He doesn't care at all how unpopular he is.
It could be 90% strongly against and he wouldn't budge. I don't know if he would leave even if he was impeached. He'd have to be forcibly removed by the military or something.

11. How many seats are up for grabs in DC?
With numbers like that, those in DC realize that it means the voters will respond in the only way they can, against those of the same party. Hence, it makes it bad for all of them.

Does Bush care? Nope.

12. With the largest terrorist attack against this country happening on
his watch, you'd think his disapproval rating would even be higher than 44%...
