Thanks, Dems, for "keeping your powder dry". where do you want this
shipment of coat hangers?
I just wanted to point out that the fact we have seen a flurry of state activity to end choice, to discriminate against gays, shows that even though Dem leaders thought it "prudent" to keep their filibuster guns in their holsters, the ENEMY knew EXACTLY what an Alito on the bench MEANT. Theirs efforts seem COORDINATED, and it seemed they waiting for the ALITO appointment to start waging war on gays and women.

We are going to see the real life version of a handmaid's tale, and the modern version of a fascist dictator, unchecked and unbalanced, the so-called "unitary executive".

so...I just wanted to point out that what I posted previously was dead on: the ALITO appt. was the PRECISELY MOST APPROPRIATE time to filibuster.

on Jan 19, I posted this thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=364&topic_id=184499

an excerpt:

No leader ever drew more followers by capitulating to the enemy, that I'm aware of.

as my uncle used to say "Go BIG or go home".

If THEY don't do it, no one else is in their position to do so. They owe it to the american people to do everything in their power, even if unsucessful, and EVEN IF IT MEANS NOT GETTING REELECTED, to serve the people. We hired them to do a job. We didn't hire them to protect their own employment. Public service is a sacred trust and its about damn time we got back to realizing that.

1. Amen.
I am so thoroughly bummed. We who called, faxed, emailed all knew what the price of his confirmation was.

3. Yep. Given the opportunity to stand up for individual rights...
...our so-called leaders remained seated.

They are not of us.

4. On the national level, the party doesn't give a rat's behind
As long as corporate donors keep the money pouring in to reelection coffers, all is well and nothing else matters.

6. Spot on, thank you
I'm so damn tired of quisling Dems and their enablers. Yes, our powder is dry, but sadly we threw away our gun and bullets. IE, we're screwed.

8. K&R and another point..
Notice how the Dems are suddenly bold and empowered over the Dubai/UAE Ports scandal? Notice how much positive press they're getting for opposing this deal? Granted not much effort is really required on their to fight this, as Boxer said on Lou Dobbs the other day, "everyone gets it".

The point is, the Democratic leadership could have at least demonstrated just as much outrage over the Alito appointment, and yes it would have actually required work on their part, but it wasn't impossible. They only needed to have been personally motivated on principle if nothing else.
