Faith Hill/Tim McGraw Blast "Humilating" Katrina Cleanup

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw -- two stars who usually stay out of politics -- blasted the Hurricane Katrina cleanup effort, with Hill calling the slow progress in Louisiana and Mississippi "embarrassing" and "humiliating."

The country music artists -- who are natives of the storm ravaged states -- were at times close to tears, and clearly angry when the subject of Katrina came up during a news conference today. They had met with reporters in Nashville to promote their upcoming Soul2Soul II Tour, but when asked about the hurricane cleanup, the stars pulled no punches.

McGraw specifically criticized President Bush. "There's no reason why someone can't go down there who's supposed to be the leader of the free world … and say, 'I'm giving you a job to do and I'm not leaving here until it's done. And you're held accountable, and you're held accountable, and you're held accountable.

"'This is what I've given you to do, and if it's not done by the time I get back on my plane, then you're fired and someone else will be in your place. '"

Along the president's route, some frustrated residents held up signs in protest, one asking "Where's my government?" and another telling the president to "cut the red tap and help us."

Hill, who grew up in Jackson, Miss., echoed those sentiments. So overwhelmed, she uncharacteristically unleashed an epithet, calling the situation, "Bull- - - -"

"It is a huge, huge problem and it's embarrassing," she said.

"I fear for our country if we can't handle our people a natural disaster. And I can't stand to see it. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out point A to point B. . . . And they can't even skip from point A to point B.

Sometimes it seems like the situation in Miss. is under-reported. We hear about what a mess NOLA is, but not as much about the Miss. Gulf Coast. But it really seems to be just as bad.

9. I work in concert production....

and during the summer of '04, while working a McGraw show, a fascist Physicians Assistant that hangs around at all the local shows, comes huffing and puffing into the production office.

"CAN YOU HEAR HIM YELLING OUT THERE BY THE BUSES? DO YOU HEAR WHAT HE'S SAYING! HE'S A TRAITOROUS BASTARD!".

Well...anything that pissed off this asshole was a GOOD thing in my book. So I walk out of the trailer, up the steps, and there's McGraw in a rant out on the street. A large group of his employees are watching him go off on Bush.

"AND LET'S GET THIS STRAIGHT. IF COME NOV. 3.....I FOUND OUT YOU VOTED FOR W....YOU'LL NO LONGER BE EMPLOYED BY ME!"

McGraw HATES Bush with every inch of his soul. I was pleasantly pleased to see this. Other than that rant, he was very polite all day. He walks around with a smile all the time. Total gentlemen.

And I DESPISE country music. But I've been a fan ever since...and I couldn't give the name of even one of his songs.

it's time.

I am upset with country music in general. They have played politics with their music, they
are doing it for the money. Even Toby Keith, and all his pro-war songs is a democrat.

With the exception of the Dixie Chicks, the only country music artist that has spoken out against this
administration thru music is Mary Gauthier - what, you've never heard of her? Of course not.
She's a down to earth woman that doesn't play into the glamour game. And kudos to Marty Stewart for putting her on the stage of the Grand Ol' Opry to sing about the injustice of this administration in front of the type of people that go to the Opry. Many in the audience were stunned. It was priceless.

Sorry about the rant. I used to be a huge country music fan, and all I can hope for is that some more of them will start standing up for what they believe in.

Now I will wait for Tim or Faith to write a hit song to back up their words.

RE: Area residents question what Bush knew about hurricane, 3/4/2006.

During and immediately after Katrina, as we all watched in horror and disgust, there was a very clear and strong sense that we have to protect ourselves from our government. They had not only failed us, they repeatedly took proactive steps to prevent recovery and assistance from reaching those in need. For many of us, this was only a reminder of what we already knew. For others, it was a wake up call.

Katrina, as a unique weather phenomenon, was hardly the first sign that we need to protect ourselves from our government. We should know this from the way global warming and peak oil are ignored. From the threat of jail without charges or access to an attorney. Because peace organizations are infiltrated and spied upon, and protests are forced into "free speech zones."” In the name of the U.S., torture is conducted at secret prisons. Warrantless wiretapping. 9/11.

If we are supposed to fear terrorism, let us clearly identify it. Those who hate our freedoms are those who sign legislation to restrict or cancel them. Those who inflict terror are those who have repeatedly ignored warnings before failing to protect us. The recently released videotape did not "allegedly"” show Bush was warned. It showed Bush being warned and gave lie to his absurd claim that no one could have imagined the levees failing. Just like no one could have imagined planes flying into buildings while training exercises were being conducted on that exact scenario.

Fascism is a formula, a recognizable pattern that gradually engulfs a society. It is so blatant that it can'’t be seen only when the media distorts reality by maintaining illusions of normalcy and by perpetuating the myths of democracy, capitalism, free speech, free markets and free press.

We do not consent. Support the truth.
