1. Snakes on a Plane? 11 pages? Wow, aren't they thorough
Did I miss something? Last page:

For nearly 300 years the interests of landowners, farmers, fishermen, oil companies, businessmen and politicians have all conspired against the natural will of the third largest drainage basin in the world.

2. Popular Science AND Popular Mechanics
Both of them have been co-opted by the right. They both used to be good publications but I'm astounded at the flag-waving tone of so many of their issues.

For a while there, Popular Science should have been renamed "Popular War Weapons".

3. I didn't realize being a mechanic qualified one for political punditry
everybody wants in on the act.

5. Yep, same thing happened to Car & Driver
I have read and subscribed to all of those at one time or another, but in past few years, they all took a hard turn to the right. Car & Driver should change its name to "BMW Aficionado".

6. C&D should be renamed "burn it up fast as possible"
When it comes to responsibility, C&D blames us and not the car companies (even though BMW has some of the worst MPG figures in the industry).

7. I canceled my C&D subscription after an editorial whining
about how fuel economy regulations are a bad idea because auto makers *might* use new technologies for efficiency instead of performance.

I fall into that naive group who believes you can have both, but then I'm just an ignorant liberal.
