"YAY! THE REPUBLICANS SAVED US! YAY! THANK GOODNESS!"

That's what they are saying on CNN at least (http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/03/09/port.security/index.html) . Not one mention of Democratic opposition of the deal. Instead they framed Democrats as a political obstacle:
House Republicans are openly defying the president, apparently to prevent Democrats from outflanking them on national security and outsourcing issues as elections approach.

What it should say is that a Democratic led opposition to the Port Deal and SHAMING of the Republicans by the Democrats made them fear loss of Congress in this year's election.

The article goes on to paint this as a Republican Congress SUCCESS:
House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Illinois, and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tennessee, delivered the news to Bush during a meeting Thursday at the White House...Rep. Jerry Lewis, R-California, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, worked with other GOP leaders to amend the spending bill.

And this nifty little headline: Republicans rock boat on ports deal

:puke:

1. You think GOPers bought up all that media in the 80s and 90s to give Dems
any fair chance to be heard?

5. The media can say it how they want to...
anybody that actually followed the story knows how the Dems vowed to fight it all the way. The media spin cannot change that.

10. See...
This was exactly my point when I asked what was wrong with the democratic party here and got slammed for it. I even specifically said that I was afraid that they were going to pull the credit for it after the dems brought it to the forefront.

11. What else did you expect from CNN/FOX/MSNBC (except KO)?
It doesn't matter what the issue is, they always do whatever they can to make the republicans look better.

15. The Republicans saved us.
I've suspected from the beginning that casting the Repubs as some sort of national security heroes butting heads with a second term president was somewhere behind this whole thing. I know that it doesn't explain everything but I really do think it plays a part. More framing by the Republicans.
