Just now!!
Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 03:17 PM by OctOct1
My Daughter who attends CCSU, CT State University, (Not UCONN) The other CT University, Just called me. The Entire University just walked out in protest of the war. There was media, speakers, and many sang the Beatles song Revolution. She said it was to advertise a larger protest happening March 19th in New Haven. CT I think the 19th. She said 19th then later she said the 20th. I will find out more.
Hopefully, it will make the news tonight. Anyone living around CT might want to look at the CT news tonight.

41. Yes it was Maddie, and some innocent people got killed
trying to stand up for the right thing. It looks like America's history has always focused on violence to bring about change - for either the better or the worse. I'm worrying that our country has reverted back to those dark days of the VietNam war- or even worse. I hope not. But we have in place a cruel, arrogant and self-righteous administration that has maneuvered itself into a position of power I've never seen before in my lifetime, and I'm 65.

44. I have read about Kent State...and I fear as you do that..
we will see an event similar to Kent State...and many more innocent people will be hurt or killed.

I am African American and my dad is your age and he has always said that he thought there would be another civil war in this country maybe in our lifetime...I took his comments with a grain of salt...but I now think that he may be right!! It's frightening to contemplate but not impossible with the Treasonous Traitors in the WH.

50. This is what drives home how important it is to VOTE!
Every single one of us needs to make sure we get our butts to the polls on election day. And try to get anybody else we care about to do the same thing. Check your elderly neighbors, ask if they're registered, offer rides, bug the hell out of them. IMO, those efforts are just as important (maybe even more so) than contributing $$ to campaigns.

69. GOTV (Get Out The Vote) is important, too.
Your local Democratic Party has a list of those they believe would vote for the Dem candidate. Yes, even in Virginia. The weekend before our last election, we canvassed neighborhoods to talk to just the Dems about turning out for the election the following Tuesday. Most of them weren't home, so we left literature.

I think this may have had some impact on my former precinct voting 85% for the Dem candidate. I know I saw at least three people at the polls who might not have shown up if we hadn't talked to them.

83. Don't forget Jackson State (MS) -- in the same time frame.
As for another civil war in our lifetimes, no less a Repuke luminary than Newt Gingrich has compared the current era to the two decades immediately preceding the U.S. Civil War (which historian James McPherson refers to as "The Second American Revolution").

61. I would think as long as they aren't supposed to be working then...
Perhaps call in sick or any other way one would normally take some time off there to do personal activities, then it should be fine. Teachers have the rights to free speech too. The main issue is whether they are supposed to be conducting a class at the time and might arguably be getting paid on the taxpayer's dime while they're supposed to be teaching.

46. I'm leading a week long protest on my campus starting march 20th.
I'm President and Founder of the largest College Democrat group in the state of Louisiana. Our chapter is located in Lake Charles, Louisiana at McNeese St. University and like I said, we have a week long protest planned on the campus of McNeese. Our goal is to attach a human face to the war and get people involved in a civil discussion about the war. On March 22nd we are having a teach in starting at 12:30pm, where professors and students will skip class and discuss the war in Iraq. In fact, I'm going on my radio program at 5 to promote and defend my actions to the conservative listening base.

It's gonna be interesting. You think we could actually get Keith Olbermann to talk about it on his show?
