Rethug family values: Church-burner's dad an elected Republican
Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 08:32 PM by Rowdyboy
law enforcement official, apparently.

According to today's Decatur Alabama "Daily", Benjamin Moseley's father ran for office in Jefferson County Alabama in 2004....

"A lawyer for DeBusk did not immediately return a message seeking comment, and court files did not list an attorney for Moseley, whose father ran unopposed for a constable's position in Jefferson County in 2004."

http://www.decaturdaily.com/decaturdaily/news/060309/arson.shtml

A google search turned up a list of Jefferson County Republican candidates for 2004 turns up a Stephen Moseley as one of their constable candidates....(look on the left side under Jefferson County Qualified Candidates-the third candidate listed is Stephen A Moseley)

http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:G8webXcNV6EJ:www.campaignsecrets.com/algopvt/templates/displayfiles/..%255C..%255Cuser%255Cgrahamwrightbellsouthnet%255Cdownload%255CJefferson%2520Newsletter%2520(May).pdf++jefferson+county+alabama+constables+2004+ballot+moseley&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1

So there we have a great example of Republican family values at work-an upperclass, conservative family who's son gets his jollies from burning poor, rural churches. including several that were historic buildings.....

Why am I not surprised?

30. I was gonna post the same thing. I mean, remember when you ..
were young, had a few beers, had some time on your hands on a slow Saturday night and went out and torched a church or two? We all did it didn't we? Remember how much fun that was?

Oh wait. You mean your parents taught you enough REAL values that you wouldn't have even thought about burning down a building, much less a 4 churches? Exactly. To call these punks anything but criminals is ludicrous. Now if they HAD come from disadvantaged backgrounds then I'd be more amenable about cutting them a little slack (the good liberal that I am) but these guys KNEW BETTER.

What I find ironic is that in the little town I grew up in, most kids parents were strict Southern Baptists. You'd think that'd mean that their kids would be straight-laced little Christians. Well guess what. On our Senior Trip it was the Baptist kids (who originally wanted to go to Padre Island but we voted them down in favor of New Orleans) who courted alcohol poisoning and had to be drug off of Bourbon Street half-conscious. Get the radical religous away from their parents and they go nuts and don't know how to handle it. Something tells me there was a lot of alcohol involved in this "prank".

37. Bingo...I, too, grew up in a small southern town...
mostly Baptist, and the behavior of the children was exactly as you describe. Later in life, I learned that rates of alcohol abuse are higher in people who grew up in a very strict religious family. Surprising? Not at all. I am sick and tired of these types fo things being described as pranks. If these are pranks, then, I suggest that people who are caught with an oz. of grass are only doing it as a prank and should not be prosecuted (I believe that anyway). You are also correct in stating that it would never have occured to anyone in my social network to do anything like this as a prank. Not to say that there weren't some who were very racist (still are), and would have loved to do something to injure the local black community. Very sad for this nation.

The university is not rsponsible for the actions of its students off campus. So, the question is this; What is going on behind the scenes? Are tehre offers being made to the university to avoid charges being filed against the 'pranksters'? One has to wonder.

6. You mean that a kid raised with right wing oppression would rebel?
Hell, why do you think the 60s happened the way they did?

We OLD boomers grew up with grey conformity and denial of anything outside the Father Knows Best mode. Too many things were never talked about, too little opportunities were open to most of us, punishments vastly outweighed our minor crimes of mild disobedience.

I remember the 50s as being shades of grey, even though I can remember my mother's flowered housedresses. When the mid 60s came around and we got out of high school and away from our parents, the whole world burst into bright color. Only part of that was due to the drugs we turned to.

I figure it's the same for kids being brought up in these GOP fundy households. Unfortunately, what they've turned to is sort of a bastardized Satanism, a violent nihilism rejecting all spiritualism since the only spiritual system they've been shown is one poisoned by hate.

I don't despair of these kids. Most won't burn churches and most will grow up a little more and become just as boringly respectable as we did.

I just know exactly where they're coming from.

The nights have grown long and the interstates of Alabama drunk driverless, the state troopers bored, the county sheriffs less weary, and the deer of Bibb County fearless. 2006 is here, it is time to reconvene the season of evil! Only one problem stands in our way. I got a new cellphone for Xmas and I no longer have your number, so send it to me and evil shall once again come to pass!

Can you just leave it at "worship of evil" and not involve pagans? Most "pagans" worship earth-based/peace-loving deities... equating us to "fascism" and "evil" is hurtful. Sure the Nazi's, KKK, and other "evil" people have had an interest in the arcane... but mostly in an attempt to usurp another type of power. It's like considering B* a christian. It ain't really so...

peace and goodwill from a pagan...

Being a Republican, the constable is sure to be re-elected again and again and again. Whereas, had he been a Democrat, there would be a zillion signed petitions and outcries from public officials for him to step-down and pay for the church reconstructions out of his own pocket.

This kind of hypocrisy is exactly what I detest about the "red states."

student those three are: shallow, spoiled affluent kids with empty heads and empty hearts who are in college not because they have any intellectual curiosity or vocational goals, but because affluent 18-22-year-olds are "supposed" to be in college. Their whole attitude toward life can be summed up as "Whatever" and "Baw-ring."

Imagine an entire university of them, one where I once taught but from which I ran screaming.

Here's what rich republicans do: they send their monstrosities off to "certain" private colleges and universities that charge about 34 grand a year for tuition. It's not the education that runs up the tuition tab--it's the handholding, counseling, detox, etc.

I used to teach at one of these places. Oh, and if they get any lower than a "B" for the illiterate scribblings they turn in as research papers, they take the prof up with the dean.

66. I know. I coudn't even read past the headline
now they're trying to "soften" up the little fuckers' image.

The point they're making: If you're rich, Caucasian and Republican, we'll humanize you even when you do the most heinous things to hurt others.

Fuck that story and fuck the University for helping these little cocksuckers and fuck the parents for raising such scum.

I'm just sick of the way Repukes destroy everything they touch and then tell the rest of us it's "no big deal."

I'd like to whip the living shit out of all those kids, personally.

35. I guess there weren't any homeless people to beat or set fire to
in their part of the country. Or maybe they got tired of taping their gangbang rapes.

Poor naive ol' 50+ me continues to be drop-jawed by what privileged youth will do for shits and giggles.

39. OH, if he is a Republican, it's OK
that he burns churches.

Why don't you understand the way America works in the 21st century???

46. Daddy's probably proud of sonny-boy. I mean don't Repubs all
believe that torture is just a 'fraternity prank'? So what's a little church arson, just a joke that got out of hand? My guess is these 3 will receive punishment on par with the generals running our USA torture chambers.

59. "Prank", as in "Abu Ghraib was a fraternity prank!" (as heard on
the Rush Limbaugh show)

Remember that one, "Oxy-Moron"?

63. Acouple of days ago in Kansas City
Someone broke into a church to steal the copper pipes, they were very lucky, because they ripped out gas pipes with the gas turned on. They could have blown themselves and anyone in area skyhigh.
my point though, is when they catch the people who did this I bet they see more jailtime than these punks, and much faster.
The wheels of justice turn fast for the poor.
