Sam Brownback Wants To Flaten D.C. With a Flat Tax
Memo to Sam Brownback: Keep your nose out of D.C.'s business.

It appears as though Republican Senator Sam Brownback has had another one of his brilliant ideas! He wants to experiment on the good people of our nation's capitol.

He is proposing a flat federal income tax for residents of the District of Columbia. At the heart of his proposal: giving D.C. residents the option to "voluntarily pay federal taxes through a system that scraps tax breaks, like mortgage interest and charitable donation deductions, in favor of a lower tax rate."

D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton opposes the idea, saying it would gentrification. "Shadow" Senator Paul Strauss remarked "It is morally wrong for Congress to use D.C. as an experiment. I also find it alarming that this Congress, which has all but bankrupted the federal government, now wants to change the system in D.C., which has a budget surplus." And the people of D.C. said "Amen!"

Here's an idea for Sam Brownback: If you truly have an interest in the citizens of D.C. (which I am sure you don't), then how about becoming a proponent for D.C. statehood?

The residents of the District of Columbia are being taxed without representation. They pay federal taxes just like every other American citizen. Yet, they have no adequate representation on Capitol Hill. And that defies everything that this country is supposed to stand for.

1. right, scrap tax breaks that the working class can actually use
but you bet your ass the fat cats would still get theirs.

This didn't work with Reagan and it won't work with Brownback.

Anybody who falls for this is an idiot.

3. How ironic -- yet another taxation without representation proposal
DC residents should be subject to a "flat tax" of ZERO percent, until they're given due representation in the House and Senate. How on earth can the "leader of the free world" continue to deny voting rights to the citizens of the country's capital, and yet expect them to finance the very government that denies them equitable representation? No other democracy on the face of the earth does this. Leave it to a wingnut Senator from Kansas to decide what's best for DC residents, since they're obviously not allowed to decide any of this for themselves. What a country!

5. How about
a flat pay income for senators at minimum wage at the rate they actually do work.

Instead these ass holes give themselves frequent "cost of living increases".
