1. I'd say NEITHER.

Because the battle between Shia and Sunni people just can't be recast as a battle between Democrats and Republicans.

Whatever their reasons for wanting US forces there, or wanting US forces to leave, I doubt that they relate to Democratic or Republican philosophy.

The ones who applaud US occupation are probably the ones who have been installed as "officials" for the US Empire. The ones who don't are probably the people who have dead children or who have seen the damage that US forces have wrought on their livelihoods.
