Poll question: Dubai and Spine |
|
To save their butts, Repubs joined with Dems to squash the Dubai port deal. For the first time in 5 years - BOTH parties showed some spine and balls. You may say that bush* did succeed in "uniting America"
so what's next? The Repubs are still in control and dems (despite their opposition) are still effectively neutered. Frist waffled on the Dubai port deal and appears to be the designated water carrier for bush*, while the majority of GOPers are trying to save their collective butts.
Lou Dobbs hailed it as a victory for the people - meaning Congress actually listened to what we "the people" had to say
It was mentioned more than once on various news shows that bush*'s approval numbers had more to do with the "revolt" than any outcry from the people
will this trend of standing up to King George continue?

1. I don't see the "GOP revolt" lasting |

if this had happened in September-October - then I could see it having a significant effect on mid-term (s)elections
sadly, "we the people" as a whole have short memories. While the Dems stirred up the debate and came out swinging - repugs are getting most of the credit for stopping the deal
Rove still has a list of "naughty GOPers" and there will be threats of payback if they don't change their ways
Interesting comment by my partner regarding Dubai transferring "control" to US entity -- she pointed out bush* got himself into a hole with the "veto threat" and once again it took SOMEONE ELSE to get him out of the hole
If you think back to all his business ventures -- SOMEONE ELSE had to bail him out of those too

2. It goes in Waves and it is now time for another party |

Since I have been voting it has gone first to one then to the other. I am counting after the Dem. from 1932 to 1952. My first vote was for Ike and I had to be 21 but I have lost it on if it was the first time he ran or not.Looks sort of even to me when you put it all together even if the talking heads are always saying the Dem. are dead for the White House. It is when you start counting.I do not know how Congress has been set up but it would be interesting to look it up for the years I have been around.
