Holy Crap! Have You Seen Bed Bug Bite Lady's Bites?

These photos supplied by the law offices of Zalman & Schnurman, showing bedbug bits on the body of Leslie Fox, were taken at the Ellenville Regional Hosptial in Ellenville, N.Y., Thursday, July 14, 2005. Fox, a Chicago booking agent and her husband are suing a Catskills resort for $20 million, saying her body and mind were scarred after she suffered some 500 bedbug bites last summer. (AP Photo/Law offices of Zalman & Schnurman, Stephen Cohen)

Curiously, she and her husband returned to the bed bug motel after this incident...

NEW YORK - A couple who claim they were bitten by bedbugs while staying at a Catskills resort in July returned for another stay later that month, according to the hotel's lawyer.

But Leslie Fox says she went back to the Nevele Hotel because her husband, Stephen Cohen, was under contract to give a lecture and she wanted to go with him.

"I was absolutely loath to have to go back there, and I went back with great apprehension," Fox said Wednesday.

Joseph O'Connor, a lawyer for the resort, didn't buy the explanation.

"I think he probably could have done it without her," he told the Daily News.

2. Bedbugs have returned with a vengence
And are a real and growing problem in much of the country. I work for a pest control company (all Blue, btw-no one here is named DeLay) and read the trade magazines. There are new pesticides out for bedbugs, as well as vacuum systems to get rid of them and sanitize the mattress at the same time. What this woman should be worried about is if she brought any of the critters home with her-that's how they get spread around.

7. Not sure
we haven't encountered any in NW Arkansas, but according to the trades, they are widespread and their numbers are growing.

16. I saw a report
talking about New York City having big time problems with bed bugs all over the city. I may not be remembering right, but I think the worst of the epidemic is between the upper east coast and the mid atlantic states. However, they are spreading because they are so tiny and easily hitch a ride in people's clothing etc.

4. Yeah, why did she go back
to that motel? :wtf: I've read bed bugs are a real problem in NYC right now.

Luckily, I haven't heard anyone around here in NC complain about them yet. Though, I have a feeling it's just a matter of time before they show up here.

10. Bingo! that doesn't make sense at all.
Don't tell me that was the ONLY motel they could have stayed at.

I would be so skiived-out and freaked out, I wouldn't have set foot in the place again. Ever.

5. So this time, she didn't de-louse the sheets first?
Or bring her own? Or do anything but hop back into the same bed where she got chomped the first time (supposedly).

I smell a $20mil rat.

8. Bedbugs don't live on the sheets
but in the mattress itself. Bringing your own sheets will offer some protection, but not much; and if you take the sheets home, it is likely they will include some of the bugs.

then a bad case of chiggers. There are place in FL that you can't even sit around the campfire anymore without ending up looking like that, except they're on your legs and around your waist.

11. That's what I'm thinkin'
Unless the motel has a "rash" of complaints about this (hey, sorry). But if this woman was the ONLY guest, and she came back twice to get the red marks, then still I call Bullshit!

I grew up in Florida and lived there until my mid-twenties. There are so many critters in Florida, chiggers among them, that could have done this. I've seen people get flea bites like this, because they don't die in the winter down there like up here in New England...if you any kind of pet down there, they'll be a-hoppin all over your carpets before you can yell "RAID!"

I still don't buy this...WHY DID SHE GO BACK?

12. Oh I don't doubt her story
there's an epidemic going on up there of bedbugs in hotels. It's just that bedbugs are grosser because you sleep with them. The results aren't that much worse then chiggers and actually chiggers are worse because not only do they bite, they stay alive under your skin. That's the gross part.

9. This seems to be a pre-planned lawsuit -
or an extremely crazy person. Who (in their right mind) would stay after even ONE bed bug bite?

18. Some, most people don't have that reaction to bed bugs.
I did this summer. And itch from hell that last at least a whole week. I looked very similar to that this summer, just not so many as her.

13. Her bites look horribly painful to me.
I really don't understand why she says she had to go back to that same hotel. I saw her on the Today show yesterday morning and she said it was the only available hotel in the town where he husband lectured. I mean, I would have driven to the next town if I had to, just to avoid staying at the Bed Bug Inn. But that's just me. ;)

But for those of us who do, it's like being biten by a mosquito over and over and over all day and all night for over a week.

This is just bizarre. She won't be getting any money, she is obviously a liar. It looks as though they took the motel up on the 2 free nights... :eyes:

<snip>

Fox said she and her husband, who was also bitten but not as badly, pulled their bed apart and found a swarm of bugs under the sheets.

"The bugs were sent to the University of Illinois in Chicago and verified to be bed bugs," Fox's attorney Alan Schnurman told AP.

Schnurman said the sheets on the bed were speckled with blood and smeared with spots of bug excrement.

When the couple reported the infestation to hotel staff, they were offered two free nights, but Fox and her husband Stephen Cohen declined, Schnurman said, because they were itching to get away.

The couple were treated at a local hospital, Schnurman said, adding that Fox's severe reaction to the bites were apparently the result of an allergy and that she is still undergoing treatment.

You link suggests that they are not lying about this. Damn, I've never been bitten by a bed bug -maybe I'm just lucky.
