Here's An Odd Question:
On the American flag and the Democrat Donkey (sorry, don't know what it's officially called), the stars are "right side up" i.e. one point at the top, two each on the side and down. Why are the stars on the Republican Elephant upside down?

Just curious.

1. Same reason satanists invert the crucifix?
Just guessing based on historic behavior of the party.

"Goat's horns stab at heaven". Or the turning of America on its head. But I'm not that cynical.

On edit: corrected wording for clarity.

3. That seems to have changed in 2004 - they used to be right side up before
that.

6. Really!
I wonder if it's some long-standing tradition having to do with a second term President or something? Curious.

No definite information as to why it's used on the GOP Elephantasscot

A typical Neopagan pentagram (circumscribed): a symbol used in many Neopagan traditions to represent earth, air, fire and water, plus the fifth element of quintessence or Spirit.

Pentagram image from Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa's Libri tres de occulta philosophia illustrating the golden symmetry of the human body. The signs on the perimeter are astrological.

Pythagorean use
The Pythagoreans called the pentagram ύγιεια Hygieia ("health" also the Greek goddess of health, Hygieia), and saw in the pentagram a mathematical perfection.

The five vertices were also used by the medieval neo-pythagoreans (whom one could argue were not pythagoreans at all) to represent the five Classical elements:

ύδωρ, Hydor, water
Γαια, Gaia earth
ίδέα, Idea or ίερόν, Hieron "a divine thing"
έιλή, Heile, heat (fire)
άήρ, Aer, air

Satanists use an inverted Pythagorean pentagram (one point down), often inscribed in a double circle, with the head of Baphomet inside the pentagram. They use it much the same way as the Pythagoreans - after all, Tartaros does mean Hell in Christian terminology (the word is used as such in the Bible, referring to the place where the fallen angels are fettered). The pythagorean Greek letters are most often replaced by the Hebrew letters לויתן forming the name Leviathan. Less esoteric Satanists (LaVeyan types; the ones that exist in abundance) use it as a sign of rebellion or religious identification, the three downward points symbolising rejection of the holy Trinity.

One source said it's a Blanket of Stars of which the left side would be upside down.

One said, it's not upside down, it's LEANING RIGHT. :)

8. Thanks for the information.
I'm not sure I understand the blanket thing. If you look at a flat panel on which there appear 5 pointed stars on both sides, the stars are "right-side up" regardless of whether you're looking at the right or left side. I'm picturing the flag as my example here. It's only if you start by turning the flag stripes down that the stars will be inverted from left to right. So that theory essentially says the flag is meant to be flown stripes down, and I'd be willing to bet that's just not correct. If anything, it's meant to be flown with stripes horizontal, in which case the stars are "right side up" no matter whether you look at them from the left of right side.

By the way, if the stars are leaning to the right, aren't they going to look the same leaning to the left? What a buncha maroons! Next time I run into a puke, I'll point out the "left leaning" stars of his party mascot, see if I can't persude him that the GOP is in the pocket of the Dems and tell him to vote for the Constitution party.
