Is a war with Iran inevitable?

The Dubai deal, the concessions to India, the nuclear ambitions of Iran, the saber rattling is just starting to warm up. Much like the march to war with Iraq on falsified intelligence and claims.

Something is going to break soon, the administration needs to create another crisis to wrap themselves in the flag and denounce anyone questioning them as traitors weak on defense (note Dems running like scared mice). The administration has a plan, and that plan is MORE WAR.

2. IMO, no, this administration doesn't have the "political capital"...
...but maybe they'll be able to cook up some incident to whip up Americans into it, who knows?

5. I don't think it matters anymore.
Seems to me this bunch is doing whatever they damn well please regardless of public support. As Bolton told the UN this week - it would be easy for us to "take out" Iran's nuclear facility with a bombing campaign, and the rhetoric coming from the State Department and Pentagon sounds eerily familiar, circa. 2002.

There will be no stopping them. They don't care.

12. ..unless we use the new underground NUKE BOMBS.

the conventional bombs we have could not reach the nuclear facilities in Iran.

22. A real Cake Walk I'm sure and the flowers have been ordered
Has the GOP said anything in the last decade that had any bearing to the truth in it? I can think of absolutely nothing. Clinton's Budget will absolutely destroy America. Voiced by every single Republican and all their punditry. Guess what happened. Bush* took over and said "Now we will fix the economy" Greatest economic turn around in history for America. Why should Americans believe a single thing they say? Why? When have they been correct about anything?

15. They didn't have much in the way of capital 9-10-2001 either.
Edited on Fri Mar-10-06 11:28 AM by Warren Stupidity
They have stated repeatedly and publicly that their goal is permanent one party control of the federal government, they have acheived the 'one party control' part and they are working on the 'permanent' part. Anything that threatens their objective here will be dealt with. As things stand right now, control of congress is threatened by the current political situation. They will act to drastically change the political situation in order assure victory. What has worked for them in the past is a security crisis and the most obvious path forward for them is another security crisis.

19. Exactly.
Nobody seems to remember how abyssmal *'s polls were in August 2001. They were lower, after 8 months in office, than Clinton's were at any point in his presidency.

I dread a precipitating event to rally the nation.

4. not inevitable
I think it's a real danger. I think that if any sane President were in office now, Democrat or Republican, I'd immediately say that a possible war with Iran is nothing but saber-rattling, that we'd never do such a foolish thing. With this crew in charge, I just can't say that.

But, as to inevitability, I say no for the following reasons:

-"sane" heads in the administration, if any, MIGHT prevail (but not likely)
-sane Republicans might call for their man's ouster if he made incontrovertible moves toward war.

It's not much to hang one's hat on, but it's enough that I don't think you can call war with Iran inevitable just yet.

13. Who are the "sane heads" in this administration?
Serious question - I think they are all batshit crazy. They will do what they want to do, no matter what anyone else may say, do, or threaten.

18. please note the quotation marks
I didn't use quotes around sane when talking about congressional republicans, because I know there are some. With the admin, I used quotes to denote that I'm not sure if any of them has a rational thought left in their collective brains.

But I also have to allow for the possibility that there might be one or two left who haven't slipped over the edge.

i.e., I think I mostly agree with you.

7. I don't think we physically can in the near future.
Alternatively I could see a Europeon Union or Russia or Israel doing something - but i don't know that it will be us that does it.

because now * must be quite aware of the threat of impeachment. If he where to start another mess impeachment might be unavoidable.

It is. It may be filtered through Israel in the beginning but we are definitely planning on military action against Iran.

11. Attack from Israel would not be very effective, as Iran has already ..
.. anticipated that by putting its nuclear facilities in hardened underground locations spread around the country.

It would take ground forces or some kind of new nuclear bombs to penetrate underground/mountainous facilities in Iran.

And anyone that DID use NUCLEAR bombs would be denounced by world opinions.

14. There are no political considerations
Popularity or threat of impeachment is not in the thought process with this crowd.
They will do whatever they can to advance their agenda - ramifications be damned.
The idiot, after all, is merely a coverman for the neo-con gang. His ratings are of no concern - they may even fuel the agenda more at this point.
Impeachment? They aren't considering that as long as the power is absolute, as it is now.
It's obvious to them ( and many of us) that the dems are of no serious threat at all.

Religious fundamentalists enevitably wage war against any other
religious fundamentalists that they come into contact with.

So I think it's inevitable that our Christian Zealots will try
to destroy their Muslim zealots if both sets of zealots remain
in power.
