Now I've Seen Everything: A Hitler Apologist On DU
Edited on Fri Mar-10-06 11:37 AM by cali
this just makes me sad.

"Actually I think shrub is worse than Hitler. Hitler had undeniable skills
and ability.
He rose from a deeply troubled childhood with no social standing.
He was (according to all the accounts I've read) a tremendously talented speaker.
He was a brilliant strategist.
He was successful in utterly transforming his country from an impoverished, demoralized, and subjugated basket-case, into a world-class economic and manufacturing powerhouse in less than 10 years.
And, most importantly, he did what he did to make life better for (most of)the German people.
What has the retarded chimp done? Steal."

5. Hey, I can name the positive attributes of ted bundy too, and for that
matter, george w. bush; that doesn't mean I apologise, support, endorse or advocate ANY fiber of their beings in any sort of way.

One can have a disembodied, cordial discourse about pretty awful people.

6. That is, perhaps, the ugliest thing I've ever seen posted here.
"He did what he did to make life better"

That statement is despicable.

21. Most tyrants think that they're making life better. "Gott ist mit Unst"
That statement is despicable when applied to Hitler, but not atypical as an expression of self-characterization.

22. It also applies to the early1930s, before he had sunk completely
into insanity. By the late 1930s, when he had been isolated from reality and been freed from considering anything but the type of nuttiness that had led him to write "Mein Kampf," he was irredeemable and worse than Idiot.

However, right now Idiot is on a par with the Hitler of the early 30s and half the man he was.

Monsters rarely burst full blown upon the scene. They start out pleasant, affable, making sense, and offering solutions to people under stress. A few people spot them early and realize what they are. Most don't.

I just hope enough of us spot Idiot in time to stop him, remove him from office, save ourselves and our country.

7. I think you are over reacting
Hitler was an evil sick repulsive genius.

Pointing out his genius does not make one an apologist.

10. An invidious comparison. Not an apology, as I read it.
All of these points are debatable, except the rise from troubled childhood to demented adulthood (and the talented speaker part), but most of this has some basis in fact.

Curious. What troubles you so much about that post?

17. The statement
that he did what he did to benefit the German People is highly disturbing. First of all, it's attributing benevolent motives to hideous actions. It's also not true. He didn't benefit the German people. He was a disater for them. I could go on, but if you don't see that as problematic, well........

11. "he did what he did to make life better" not so much
He did what he did because he was driven by the need for revenge against those that humilated Germany after W.W.I. The end result is that Germans in particular suffered greatly at the hands of their government and at the hands of the Allies. I make no apologies for Hitler, but there are some facts that maybe make him a little more human, kinda, sorta.

Unlike Bush, Hitler was a self-made man of modest beginnings. Unlike Bush, Hitler had a respectable if unremarkable war record.

Edited on Fri Mar-10-06 11:46 AM by cat_girl25
That takes skill. It reminds me of how Bush and his admin. brainwashes the coservatives out there with the help of the media.

13. They are, however, factual statements...
...with the probable exception of the "mak(ing) life better" and the "brilliant strategist" (politically, yes; militarily, not quite) things; it was about arrogation of absolute power, and his psychoses.

18. You can compare anyone with anyone else.
The important thing is to compare the close similarities and vast differences. It's the similarities that are most important. Except for ego I do not see many similarities between Bush and Hitler. Probably most of the similarities are between Bush's cronies and Hitler's cronies.

19. I think you're reading that wrong
that's not an apologist statement. It's a statement of fact - just because Hitler was also a profoundly flawed human and ultimately "evil", doesn't take away from the facts surrounding his ascendancy. Hitler didn't wake up and say "I think I'll be evil today". He really believed in a master race and by dehumanizing anyone who didn't belong he secured power and justified his means, in his own mind.

Hitler rose to power by promising a better life to the German people - whether or not he really intended that is moot of course. He did it by blaming an external enemy and an easily identifiable internal enemy for the problems that poor starving Germans perceived in their life. It was just a tiny little push to incite the mob there, for fairly complex economic reasons, to get them to villify jews (non christians) and immigrants (sound familiar?) and to take the next steps of "removing them" from Germany. People are not innately monsters. They are innately myopic, and driven by fear, and Hitler recognized how to manipulate that.

Cali nothing in this statement is apologist for Hitler. We shouldn't try to lead the mob to get a monster who isn't there.

At least thats the way I look at things. I think Hitler was worse than Bush but that ain't saying too much.
