"Our country is now geared to an arms economy bred in an artificially induced psychosis of war hysteria and an incessant propaganda of fear."

Who said this?

No googling, please!

17. Not me. Not my wife, daughter, extended family or friends...
...but possibly a few associates and co-workers who cannot face up to the fact that they were and are so egregiously wrong.

Swann is a gimmick; the GOP almost acknowledges its gimmick-ry. If Swann or Santorum even get close then election fraud has won! On the other hand, I'd like to see McCain helping Santorum as much as he can; I wanna see PA stay in the blue column in '08 and McCain/Santorum photos would help.

Where are you from, Divernan, and is your sports landscape as bleak as it is in Philly (bleak or not, the Phillies, Flyers, Sixers and Eagles are still my guys)?

General Douglas MacArthur, the multi-decorated general that Truman fired.

14. In 1948 he tried to get the GOP pres. nomination but failed.
Because his appeal was to the ultra-conservatives.

MacArthur. I've got it listed in my favorite political quotations in my notebook. :D

Sorry, I see someone else already named it. Nevermind.

My first thought was that it might have been Ike, since I've heard several similar statements by him.
