2. thanks. This covers the north and northwest subs of Chicago. (read GOP)
For this kind of result to appear - shit, I no longer believe that Giddiup and Ratsmusing and other make believe polls can support their 37% ratings. 18% is more like it.

6. Exactly! The Herald covers the heavy GOP zones areound Chicago
though the Herald is still far less conservative than the Trib.
Of course the poll isn't limited to subscribers but I don't know who else would think to visit their web site.

8. DH covers a lot more than suburbs of Chicago
Edited on Fri Mar-10-06 03:40 PM by cmt928
it covers all of DuPage County and most the larger towns of Lake and Will County - that was when I worked for them back in late 90's so I think they've expanded even further.

DuPage used to be almost a totally repuke area, but my friends say that has been changing in some areas as repukes move further west or north.

I personally see this as a good sign, that people who blindly voted for the dubya and his administration may not be such sheeple in the upcoming elections.

Just hope that the repukes up for re-election don't make the 'dubai deal dubya dumped' work to their advantage by saying they 'stood up to the pres' - sheeple may buy into that again and still vote as their church tells them to on THE one issue alone (abortion)!

11. DuPage: the county that white flight built.
I pretty much grew up there and now a hop & skip outside the county line.

15. 76th in circulation in the country in 2004
Right behind the Seattle P-I and ahead of many.

They certainly have grown and continue to grow. It's a very good paper.

17. It's an OK paper.
I mainly take it because they deliver it right to my front door and the dog refuses to fetch the Trib from the end of the driveway.

3. Impressive.
Given you have a compliant Republican majority and a partisan corporate media, you really have to work hard to get results like this.

12. stop it! I have to work and I can't spew on my keyboard again!
For those who don't follow illinois pols,

Oberweis is a neonazi running for governor. A multi-milllionaire, he thinks that North Dakota's abortion rules are too lenient. His family gave him a dairy, but little in the way of common sense. A nasty, childish, spoiled asshat who has been quoted as saying that the bible gives us all the laws we need. (That was between campaigns) He has run for state wide office before, creating ads that sounded almost Goebbels-like in their intensity about immigration, abortion, drugs, and more.

If memory serves, he ran for senate, had his hat handed to him by 7 of 9's husband, who was forced to withdraw, and was replaced not by Oberweis, but by and even more crazed guy named Alan Keyes.

13. Now 19,545 votes.
Choice Votes Percentage of 19,545 Votes
A 1,191 6%
B 1,914 10%
C 1,482 8%
D 2,933 15%
F 12,025 62%

So 62% F + 15% D = 77& failing grade.
I wonder what the other 23% were thinking.

18. The Herald Endorsed Kerry In '04
I'm one of many "city brats" who have infilitrated the "white flight" in the past 10-20 years that has turned this once heavy red area to purple and on its way to being blue.

A good part of the change had been caused by the implosion and infighting of the Illinois Repugnican party that is on the verge of becoming extinct on a statewide level. The primary has turned into a bitter slimefest that, hopefully, will piss off all types of repugnicans that many will vote in the primary and then stay home in November. Meanwhile the Democratic party continues to grow in an area where no party structure existed until the 90's...an area where Pate Philip's machine was once as viable as the Daleys. Either Tammy Duckworth or Diane Cegalis stands a great chance to take the open seat from Henry "Youthful Indiscretion" Hyde (R-Pantload). There's even Democratic challengers in the State House and Senate races from this area...something unheard of only 10 years ago.

Things sure have changed from the days when my wife and I were the lone Democrat voters in our polling place...and force the repugnicans to have a booth set up for us.

Hopefully these are the same winds of change that are being felt in Orange County and Sussex County...

Cheers...
