Why I don't want Hillary to run.
I just got locked down for changing a subject line while I was trying to explain my position. I got instantly flamed, and while one or two posters were at least polite in pointing out that the story I had never heard before was actually "old news" to some, most decided to do the usual name-calling and eye-rolling thing. Here is the thread, which I had originally titled "One More Reason To Loathe Hillary." I got so fed up, I changed it to "Hillary Is Our God And Savior", which in retrospect probably wasn't a good idea, and Skinner locked it while I was responding to one of the few polite posters...

----

The response I didn't get to make, but still feel is important:

Personally, I'd actually not have much of a problem voting for Hillary. Although, I think she HAS sold us out to some degree, by refusing to act like a real democrat and stand up to BushCo. My problem with Hillary is that she will become the central campaign issue, not the issues themselves. I PROMISE you, we'll get nothing but a two-year rehash of Whitewater, Bill's dick, Vince Foster, travel-gate...that is why the RW loves her. They can demonize her in two notes. I personally know people who cringe at here very name, and still blame her for all sorts of the world's woes. I'm not saying they're right. I'm saying, her candidacy will be a distraction from the real issues. That is why I don't want to see her run.

2. I hope she doesn't run.
And if she dares to I hope she doesn't get much support.

Her recent vote to re-authorize the patriot act is only the latest slap in the face.

She should stay in NY.

3. WTF...distraction from the real issues. We have that now without her

running.

The RW plays distraction. WTF. That is their game.

Katrina
Downing Street Memo
The Iraq War
Ports
Abramoff
Banning Gay Marriage as a distraction against voting on the economy
Iran
I can't even name them all there are so many

They are distracting from the real issues right now. So I hate to say it but what you are saying doesn't make any sense based on the fact that there have been nothing but distractions during *'s reign.

Give me a break...PUHLEEZ

any candidate will be Swift-boated so WTF do we not run anyone? They will find distractions with ANYONE. So give me more reasons those you've posted don't fly.

5. So, in essence, you are saying that we should not let her compete
IF she so chooses to do, because you are AFRAID of what the GOP might say or do?????????

Hell, let anyone and everyone who wants to compete so do. I think trying to marginalize her because YOU FEAR THE GOP is a defeatist attitude.

She'll either make it, or she won't. And that's IF she decides to run.

But if you allow the GOP to PICK THE FIELD for you, you've already lost.

So I think your reasoning is defeatist, and fearful.

I want to hear from everyone that tosses a chapeau in the ring. Every damn candidate, Hillary included, if she goes for it.

18. During the last election, one of the candidates that DELIGHTED
me the most was Al Friken Sharpton. Al said the things that no one else DARED to say. He hoisted the bullshit flag when it needed hoisting. Now, Al didn't have a prayer of winning, his numbers were too low, but he ADDED a key element to that entire debate process, and FORCED the other candidates to fish or cut bait. By calling them out, he elevated the discourse, and made the entire process better. And much of what he said resonated with the audiences.

If we wanna say we have a big tent in our Democratic Party, that means we gotta have a big stage in it as well. And all of the candidates, from way left to far right, from front-runners to haven't-a-prayers, who call themselves Democrats (Greens, Independents--no offense, but get fucking LOST, do your OWN primary debates) ought to have a chance to speak and be heard.

No quarter, no fear....and since the opposing team is a bunch of chickenhawks who send the flower of our youth off to die, and think Boot Camp is a cowboy boot store in San Antonio, we have NUTHIN' to be afraid of. Bring it friken ON!

21. I don't have to listen to the RW corporate msm to already know that
Hillary has a lot of bagage that I think will hurt her in the election. But, bottom line, you are right. Throw the chips up in the air and let them fall. We have to believe and we have to have courage.

6. Everyday someone posts why he/she won't vote for HIllary.
And it's the same reasons more or less. Why not concentrate on 2006? Besides, Hillary hasn't declared for 2008 yet.

7. Right you are. Lets worry about getting control in November. Then impeach
and remove The cancer that is the NeoConvicts ideology.
Then worry about 2008?

11. It doesn't matter WHO runs
Edited on Fri Mar-10-06 03:50 PM by ProudToBeBlueInRhody
The GOP has proven successful at totally demonizing the candidate, whether it be Al Gore, Clinton, John Kerry, or even Senate candidates in the respective states. I'm not a fan of Hillary and realize she would draw the most ire, but short of running no one, the GOP will smear anyone who gets the nod because that is what they do best.

20. We could run Ghandi, and they'd criticize him for being too nekkid
and soft on defense. We could run Mother Theresa, and they'd say she's an old shrew with bad fashion sense who needs a good moisturizer and a makeover. We could run St. Francis of Goddamned Asissi, and they would say he was a pervert who was too friendly with birds and other animals.

Who CARES what those assholes think? We have to focus on OUR agenda, not theirs. Theirs hasn't been working out too well for the country, has it? It's FAILED, and it's OBVIOUS that it has failed.

If we let them pick our candidates and frame the debates, we may as well stay home.

I'm not buying that.

12. I believe she was very ideological at one time. But it happens to the
best of them. They get up there in D.C. and forget what they started fighting for to begin with.

Bottom line though, I will vote for her if she's the one.

13. That's a good point, we don't need distractions in 08.
Although i personally like Hillary, i don't want to see her get the nomination for allot of the reasons you mentioned. I believe we're going to need a real progressive to turn this country around, after the eight years or less of the Bu$h regime.

15. Not Rep attacks, her positions, are what worry me

It's not attacks from Repubs that worry me, it's how her positions, esp. on Iraq and Iran, so resemble Repubs. The Reps seem to be afraid of her because she's tried hard to position herself as close to them on some issues. That's why they try so hard to paint her as liberal - otherwise, people will see that she's really quite, what, conservative? on many issues.

16. Doesn't work well with others
I believe her lack of political savvy and unwillingness to compromise with moderates cost us universal health coverage in her husband's first term. Bill is a political genius of persuasion but Hilary is not and never has been.
