French Quarter Update
I went to the quarter today for the first time since July. Driving through New Orleans East was a heartbreaker. I drove along the industrial canal on the side opposite the ninth ward. Ghost town; no traffic; no people. The Quarter is just about back to normal. Most restaurants and bars are open; parking is close to back to 100% and right now crowds are minimal. My favorite bar, Tropical Isle is up and running and my favorite bar tender made it through. There are a few pockets of construction work and the occasional extremely large pile of debris but the quarter is up and running and awaiting your visit. The city would love for you to come spend some money. Bonnie Raitt is playing at the House of Blues Sunday and Monday and next weekend the St Patrick's Day Parades will be rolling where the throws of choice are vegetables, potatoes, carrots and the most important, Cabbage.

Saw some great T-Shirts
- Levees, cheaper than Hotel Rooms
- Sheetrock happens
- FEMA Evacuation Plan - Run Motherfucker Run
- Katrina gave me the best blowjob I ever got
- Katrina and Rita Party Girls
- New Orleans established 1718, reestablished August 2005
- I stayed through Katrina and all I got was this T-Shirt and this Cadillac.

9. I talked to alot of the locals today
some I've known for years and there is close to an air of optimism in the air. The ninth ward and Lakeview continue to be disasters but I talked to some folks who lost their homes and chins are up and they are looking forward. And the sense of humor and wry wit have not been effected a bit.

4. Bosshog - I have a question
I have seen John Edwards Spring Break Habitat for Humanity clean up and it got me thinking.

Is there an organization there that allows adults to come down to help out with projects like these? The above-listed one was for students - my husband is in construction and I have two able-bodied teenagers, but I don't know where to look.

6. I've seen lots of families helping with the rebuilding process
But most of them seem to be organized through churches.

8. Habitat for Humanity
is doing a whole bunch of work down here and along the coast in Mississippi. There are several church groups helping out. My wife and I assisted work crews mostly in Mississippi but we went to New Orleans East a couple of times. What a mess. You may check www.nola.com. The print addition has "Numbers and websites" relative to cleanup and assistance needs. Also many communities from far away send folks here on a regular basis to assist so there maybe something near you. Thanks for asking.

5. Thanks for the update BOSS
and I'm sure the FQ businesses appreciated your business. Last time i was down there, all the parking was taken by construction crews and seemed to be no tourist traffic at all. But that was months ago.

Very cool about Bonnie Rait. I wish I wasn't working Monday. I wonder if it's sold out.
