Neo-Alien (a remake of the classic movie "Alien")
Edited on Fri Mar-10-06 04:32 PM by arendt
There was a thread somewhere on DU today asking what movie the
Bush Admin reminded you of. This is my reply:

----------

Neo-Alien
by arendt

The Bush Administration has been accused, with great justification,
of plagarizing Orwell. But that kind of reference will never play
with today's illiterate couch potatoes. They need an analogy with
more "teeth".

So, I offer the Bush/Neocon Cabal as a political re-make of the
Ridley Scott sci-fi horror movie "Alien".

For today's lesson in politics, simply replace the dramatis personae
of the movie with the appropriate political faction:

Luckless first victim (John Hurt).........................= Republican Party
The all-devouring alien .....................................= Neocon Cabal
The acid blood of the alien ................................= fundamentalists
Corporatchik who breaks rules to let creature in ..= Scalia + 4
Idiot who looks for his cat while monster is loose = Democratic Party
The hero who defeats the monster ....................= TO BE FOUND

In my analogy, the alien parasite latched onto the Republican party back in the early
1990s. The Clinton Impeachment should have shown spaceship America that you
shouldn't let these people into the White House; but the corporate fix was in,
and Scalia and the Felonious Five opened the airlock and set the monster among
us.

One of the most revoltingly memorable scenes of Hollywood horror is where the
luckless crewmember wakes up, eats breakfast, and then the alien chews its
way out of his stomach. That was 9-11 and the Patriot Act. The neocon beast
was lose in the ship.

Since 9-11, the creature has eaten anything it wants to, while the Democratic
Party has been as big a bunch of idiots as the Harry Dean Stanton character.
We laughed at Brett, the buffoon who walked around the ship saying "here, kitty, kitty,
kitty" until, in the inevitable Tarantino-esque punchline, he opens the wrong door
and becomes dinner.

Sadly, what is missing in America is anyone who has the slightest clue how to
stop the alien before the ship is completely trashed. We are venting atmosphere
(trillions of debt, massive outsourcing) and the crew has been devoured, replaced
by alien clones. If anyone with a chance of shoving this alien overboard is still
crawling around the bowels of America, they haven't shown themselves yet.

Any nominations for Ridley? (Hilary Clinton is not an answer!)

5. Can you photoshop this?....
If you could photoshop the scene from Alien where
the critter eat's its way out of John Hurt's stomach:

Put Bob Dole's head on John Hurt.
Put Cheney's head on the monster.
Put John Kerry's head on Harry Dean Stanton.

That would be sooooo coool.

7. Bonsoir tocqueville!
:hi: Ça va?

Take a look at this thread (mind you, I am not an Armstrong fan per se, but I never really trusted L'Equipe). Maybe you can shed some light on this topic and the nature of tabloid/sports magazines in France (pretty much the same here in the USA ;) ):

8. What l'Equipe did was sleazy journalism
that's my opinion and it's shared by others in France. What they did was tracking numbers of old urine samples and matched them with Lance's in the end. To publish the stuff one month after he retired can be interpreted as a kind of a chauvinistic vengeance and I hate that. Probably they would have done that if it was somebody else.
l'Equipe is not really a tabloid, but they like to make sensation to make money. Most of his biker colleagues found the story disgusting, specially since the accusation of doping was so old.

the EPO story can be read here

http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Lance_Armstrong_accused_of_EPO_doping

as you see it's not conclusive

The problem in that story is that there is plenty of other accusations
http://cyclisme.dopage.free.fr/portraits/armstrong.htm (in French)

IMHO I must say that it's not because Lance probably took EPO 1999, that he won the Tour. Everybody took EPO. It's not the fact that he probably did that made the difference. Lance is a great biker, you must be if you win 7 times in a row. It's not because you take drugs that you become a great rock singer.

I think it's the total denial that is his greatest enemy. Some bikers have "outed" their use when retired. People understand that it was the name of the game and forgive.

9. If I remember correctly, Miguel Indurain and Eddy Merckx stand by Lance
and support him. Years ago, when I was an avid cyclist, I grew to repect and admire Eddy Merckx a lot. I learned a lot about the sport, including aspects of French life associated with the Tour de France. This is also true for the Giro de Italia (Italy) y España (especialment Catalunya) ... now I am more interested in futebol... o meu equipo favorito é o Brasil! Oba! :D

Merci for your response and the cyclisme.dopage.free.fr link.
