I asked him if he thought protests/US flag burning etc. in Middle-east countries wasn't also motivated by racial/ethnic prejudice?

4. you made a big mistake

in challenging him to think for himself. That triggers the flight mode in order to avoid thinking about,and raise doubt about, his whole perception of reality.
But the seed is planted never the less, and doubt sprouts in the mind. you can run away but you cannot hide from the truth.
