Why did Claude Allen resign from the Bush Administration?
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 10:53 AM by shance
I find it interesting that he resigned and now is being arrested on retail theft charges.

Does anyone know why he decided to resign?

1. two things
one, abramof crap is collecting on his heels,
two, the dork knew he would be arrested for retail theft.

So much for a new feral federal appeals judge who represents Bush's Family Values.

2. Yes.
He resigned because of the charges. He went to Harriet Miers before it became public and told her it was some big mistake on the part of the authorities. The WH cut him some slack, but the mess kept growing and he had to resign.

13. Actually, Bush does know Allen. This from the White House
website:

For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
February 9, 2006

President Thanks Domestic Policy Advisor Claude Allen for Service

Claude Allen has been a trusted advisor since 2001. As Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services, he worked hard to improve the health and welfare of all Americans. During the past year, he has served as my top domestic policy advisor at the White House and has helped develop policies that will strengthen our Nation's families, schools, and communities.

Claude is a good and compassionate man, and he has my deep respect and my gratitude. I thank him for his many years of principled and dedicated service to our country. Laura and I wish Claude, Jann, and their family all the best.

9. He is someone who knows A LOT

about Katrina!

Tin hat on ~ do you think he was trying to get arrested so that he could talk to an attorney about this matter and really wants to black mail the Administration?

I know it sounds crazy , an I am in no means trying to protect the brother BUT, I read something on another thread were GW was saying he was so sorry for his family etc. etc.

Bush usually doesn't admit even knowing someone and on this sounds like he is trying to be "Mr. Nice President with Compassion for all."

Partially quoted:
"The police said Mr. Allen was seen on Jan. 2 leaving a department store in Gaithersburg, Md., with merchandise for which he had not paid. He was apprehended by a store employee and issued a misdemeanor citation for theft, said Lt. Eric Burnett, a spokesman for the Montgomery County Police Department.

A statement issued on Friday by the police said store employees saw Mr. Allen fill a shopping bag with merchandise and put additional items into a shopping cart. He then sought, and received, a refund for some of the items and left the store without paying for others.

The Police Department said that as a result of an investigation it opened after the initial incident in January, it found that Mr. Allen had received refunds of more than $5,000 last year at stores like Target and Hecht's. Mr. Allen was arrested on Thursday and charged in connection with a series of allegedly fraudulent returns. The police said he was charged with a theft scheme over $500 and theft over $500.

"He would buy items, take them out to his car and return to the store with the receipt," the police said in the statement. "He would select the same items he had just purchased and then return them for a refund."

15. Anyone of his age and status who shoplifts
is manifesting signs of emotional or substance abuse issues that impact all aspects of one's life, including (and especially) one's job performance. I have no trouble believing he was asked to resign before his behavior became public knowledge.

17. This morning Busco announced they didn't know about Allen's
problem until the news release yesterday. Yeah, right. I bet Bushco has an Iran invasion rationale to sell me also.
