Did Anyone See Battlestar Galactica Last Night?
They kicked some major ass politically! I think they were alluding to how Bush may have stolen the last two elections. They had one candidate winning most of the time, & then all of a sudden the other candidate won at the last minute because they *cheated*! Sound familiar? I was cheering the screen when they did that plot turn. That took some guts. Did anyone else see it?

Tammy

1. Yes.
But then Roslyn and Adama gave it up and the "liberal" won the election and led humanity on to a major major mistake. Hmm.....

3. Don't make the mistake of thinking Baltar is a "liberal"
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 12:02 PM by kgfnally
He may have once been that way, but he loooong ago sold out to the Cylons via his love affair with Number Six. He is, as of last season, the single slimiest character on the show. I love to hate Baltar...

Also, did you notice she was crying as she detonated the bomb?

I did not expect the season to end with all the important people split up and the Cylons occupying New Caprica. I hope the writers know what they're doing with this- they've done one hell of a job with it so far...

9. Well, I think you can make a case for it, though.
And I think the complexity is what makes the show so interesting. He's the one that's pro-choice, he's the one that's for peace and prosperity. Roslin's the one that is in bed with the military, for forced childbearing, and wants to continue the neverending stuggle.

13. Ah, but now he knows he's being manipulated
but he can't help himself because he's in love with Number Six- who, we now know, tried to keep herself detatched but damn, just couldn't do it.

Remember, she's now seeing vision of him on Caprica- interesting in itself.

She's corrupted Baltar past all hope. I just don't want to see a situation where they're stuck on the planet for the entire next season, and fortunately, they left open the option of a daring rescue.

Maybe.

4. I don't know that he is supposed to be a "liberal"
as much as he's supposed to be a lunatic. IMO Roslyn is pretty liberal, but some of the politics is going to be very skewed by the fact that there are only 50,000 people left and they're fighting for the survival of the species. That kind of messes with our notions of political classification...

10. Oh, yes, it's all very multilayered
but it's fun to see what you can read into it.

5. "How many Cylon attacks have there been since I've been President?"
"None, sir."

"Then, what are they complaining about?"

6. Yes, but the good guys tried to steal the election for the right reasons,
but in the end, took the high road and undid the election results. And the lesson there is, because they took the high road, it will result in the misery and death of tens of thousands of people because the person who did win legally, did it by swiftboating methods and by telling the people, not the truth, but what they wanted to hear.

So, what does that mean to us? Don't use the Republicans dirty methods, even if we know it will protect life?

11. Exactly.
Any oversimplification of this show would be doing it a great disservice.

7. BEST SHOW ON TV!!!!!
And now I have to wait until October to find out what happens next? AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!@!!!!&&%^%$

That show has bravely and boldly taken on all the hot button subjects other shows just dance around. I am still trying to get people to watch it who still think it's fluffy sci fi, they must give this show a chance. It is downright dark and spooky, and honest as hell.

17. Best Show on TV...
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 03:40 PM by Avalon Sparks
I'd go as far to say it's the best TV show of all time.

Man, I love this show. Sometimes I almost can't breath when I'm watching it, it's that intense. It makes me so emotional - I like and empathize with all the characters. More than once it's brought me to tears. It also evokes that same magical feeling of awe, like the first time I saw Logan's Run as a kid... or the ending of first Planet of the Apes movie.

The music - the special effects - the dialogue - the acting - the story - all excellent.

Starbuck - the coolest chick role ever. I absolutely love her.

Balter/Six relationship - makes my heart hurt.

I starting watching it because Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell were on board - two amazing actors.. by the 4th episode I was a true fan.

I'm not really reading any parallels into what's going on now in the USA to the storyline on Battlestar. Sure they face some of the same political issues - abortion, stolen elections, inside terrorist groups - but I don't think the creator/writer Ronald D. Moore is trying to make a statement or correlations to what's going on now. I do know from his blogs my perception of him is that he is a Liberal, but the Battlestar population is very small and the issues they face have been issues in all societies, but their main issue has been the survival of humanity.

I don't see any correlation between Balter and Bush at all. Balter is a genius and Bush is an idiot and their motivations for power are different. Balter is motivated by love/sex - not money or really even power. I believe he thought that if he became President he would be able to protect the Gina/Six character and they would have a chance to be together on New Caprica. Once she blew herself and Planet Nine up, I think he just thought "Well fuck it - and he just didn't give a damn what happened anymore. He turned to women and sex to forget Six. Most of the time Balter seems conflicted to me, and although his intelligence is off the charts, he is weak and ruled by his dick. Bush is motivated by money and pleasing Poppy.

Of course in TV she got caught and gave up power, because it was the right thing to do... and now they have the cylons on New Caprica and Baltar is proving to be... Junior... in his lack of capacity to run the gov'ment

19. Yes, I did and BG has been making major kick ass points about
our administration and just who we are as Americans. For one thing the Cylons are being pictured not as the evil enemy but maybe more advanced than their human creators, just different.

Remember the show where Starbuck had to torture a Cylon? I mean it was so Abu Ghraib, yet she had no problem doing it because supposedly the guy she was torturing wasn't human so she didn't care what pain she inflicted on him.
