Washington Post to cut 80 newsroom positions
Friday 10 March 2006, 5:28pm EST

NEW YORK, March 10 (Reuters) - The Washington Post Co. plans to cut 80 positions from the Washington Post's editorial staff as it grapples with a steady decline in circulation, a union representative said on Friday.

The cuts, which are expected to occur within a year, would come through buyouts and attrition, said Rick Weiss, co-chairman of the Washington Post unit of the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild. He also is science reporter on the Post's national desk.

3. Yes, and that's why they are losing circulation. If only they would report
the news, maybe they wouldn't be in this position. As for publishing RNC talking points, they've been doing that for a long time, one of the main reasons for their loss of readership.

8. Circulation down, so cut staffand give even less reason to read it
Good plan. Like in a restaurant. People don't eat there because you serve crappy food. So fire the kitchebn staff, so the food is even crappier.
