Ring of Fire talking about Patrick Henry College..OMG
http://www.phc.edu/

Using Karl Rove's Christian conservatives.

Good grief, I never heard of this place. Ashcrofts are involved. Religion, government, and hate-baiting are merged. Most of the students are home-schooled.

They recite harsh new policy ideas. Calling them Rove's neocon warriors.

1. Must be non-accredited. No science, just gov't and journalism.

3. What i said about IDing
these shining young fascists who pop up at precincts to due their Rove missionary work prior to beginning their serpentine career in the Dark Legion. Get pictures, names, whatever. Or they will be famous enough someday in the second coming of the Bush regime.

That profile sounds very much like people described by DUers stalking about batteground precincts, some trying to intimidate Black voters in 2004.

4. How much is the tuition? I found the payment plans, but no
talk of tuition.

Wonder if the parents know that credits are not transferable to other universities? I had a friend get caught with this from Pensacola Christian University.

5. The last I read they were non-accredited.
Science was the big issue. I see now on their website they have a science teacher on staff.

"Dr. Gruenke is a student advisor and teaches an introductory course in Biology. Prior to coming to Patrick Henry College, she researched the entry mechanism of the influenza virus. She has a B.S. in Biology from Bryan College and a Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of Virginia."

I have a hard time understanding how someone with this background could be a fundie, but to teach at Patrick Henry, she would have to be.

6. 4 Christ, and 4 Liberty --- Goooooo team!
Great school chant.

Now, students, today we're going to learn about all the people God hates, and once we're done with you, you will be "liberated" of all the messy ambiguities involved in being a human in a world of other humans. You will have a slogan for every occasion. (hint: Introductory Slogans 101, answer to first exam -- Clinton did it longer and harder!) And don't forget to sign up for the anti-sex league. Tonight they will have a discussion about the evils of pornography. In a dark lecture hall. With slides.

8. Do they receive any gov't. money? Are non-accredited colleges eligible
for government funds?

9. I found an article that gives some good info on PHC.
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0421-09.htm

There are apparently ties with the White House and the Republican party.

10. Ok, this part of that article scares me to death. Ties to LeHaye.
I have had too many home schoolers who came back into my classes after that as fundamentalists who could cope with the other kids in the real world. That is not a slam on all home-schooling but this shows there is a goal of some to use this.

The college was established in 2000 by Michael Farris, who runs the Home School Legal Defense Association, itself set up in 1983 to promote the values of Christian home-schooling as an alternative to what he and others considered the increasingly secular and irreligious culture taking hold in America's public schools. Farris - a lawyer who, with his wife, home-schooled their 10 children - is a protégé of Tim LaHaye, well known in the American Christian community as a veteran conservative evangelical author and preacher.

The association has since grown in numbers and influence. It now has 81,000 families, each paying dues of $100. Last year, when George Bush signed legislation banning so-called "partial-birth abortion", Farris was one of five Christian conservatives invited to witness the act in the Oval Office. The college gets so much money from right-wing Christian donors that it operates without debt and yet charges just $15,000 (£8,300) a year for tuition - about $10,000 less than comparable institutions.

thinking of someone else?

Wow, that Farris sounds like just the guy you'd want to plan your kid's education! NOT!

11. More on Michael Farris, founder of Patrick Henry College
He is also founder of the Madison Project-a group that raises big bucks for conservative candidates.

12. Patrick Henry College makes Liberty University look like Berkeley
Seriously, Liberty University makes students into obedient followers. Patrick Henry College turns them into Ann Coulters and Rich Santorums. :puke:

13. New Yorker had an article on them in the last year or so
Huge supplier of interns and other positions in Bush Admin. Feeder "Christian" private schools and Home Schoolers fill their ranks. All nurtured by Rove and his kind and big bucks of Fundie philanthropists.

VERY scary.
