What's up with Dennis Miller?
Does he still have that lame talk show on cable? He was enjoyable years ago on HBO, had that stint on MNF, then cable shows, decent popularity but then he became a Bush lap dog,. I haven't heard his whiny voice lately. His stock seems to have plummeted with Bush's approval rating.

4. Dennis Miller is an ethical and mental lightweight.
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 09:33 PM by MissMarple
He is probably trying a way to spin this turn of events in his own best interest. :eyes:

And he's a no account slick tongued, smart aleck.

7. Last time I saw him
The little weasel was hawking NetZero ISP on TV for $9.95/mo. I live in a rural area and have to have dial up but I won't use NetZero because he's the spokesman and I despise him.

11. Apparently, he has dropped off the face of the earth
Belongs in the "Where are they now?" category.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Miller

"In 2003, Miller provided short-lived regular commentary for the FOX News show Hannity & Colmes before moving on to do a prime-time political show on CNBC in early 2004 called, simply, Dennis Miller...The show was cancelled in 2005 due to poor ratings."

"In recent years Miller has also become known for his right-leaning political views, which have delighted some and outraged others. (Taking the stage after Miller at a 2003 charity event, Sir Elton John remarked: "When people say, 'Why do they hate us so much? Why do they hate us so much?' Dennis Miller." <15>) Miller is one of the few mainstream comedians to openly support the GOP. He has flown on Air Force One and is alleged to have a top spot on the GOP's "celebrity A-list." He also visits wounded soldiers to show his support for their service. Some in the GOP have even called for him to run for U.S. Senator from California."

Miller's reputation would change signficantly in the years following 9-11, when he became one of the rare Hollywood celebrities backing George W. Bush and the war in Iraq. Miller has said that one of the defining moments, in addition to 9-11, for his move from the Democratic to the Republican Party was watching a 2004 primary debate between the nine Democrats then contending for their party's nomination. ("I haven't seen a starting nine like that since the '62 Mets," he remarked. <20>)

Miller's newfound conservatism puzzled some of his former fans, as it seemed to be a complete 180-degree turn from his earlier positions. (One commentator describes Miller as having changed from a "left-leaning, Dada-ist wisenheimer" to a "tell-it-like-it-is, right-wing blowhard."

13. My favourite Arianna Huffington quote ...
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 09:49 PM by NanceGreggs
She was asked on a talk show about a year ago if she remembered when Dennis Miller was a Liberal. Her reply:

"I'm so old, not only do I remember when he was a Liberal, I remember when he was actually FUNNY!"

Miller had sone GREAT one-liners when he was going AFTER the Conservatives. When he became a Conservative after 9/11, he ran out of steam within seconds ..

His MSNBC show was supposed to be the great counter-attack to Jon Stewart's Daily Show. Stewart still goin' strong - didn't see Miller hosting the Oscars this year -- did you?

19. Like the Nazis all claiming to be Swiss,
a lot of Repugs are calling themselves "libertarians" or "independents" these days. They aren't fooling anyone.

If Miller ever finds someone to write funny material for him, he might make a comeback. If he tries to make it on his own "wit" he's through. He's not funny, he's not likable, he's disgusting.

18. Wake up
Miller WAS funny once. I went to college with him. Good guy. Then, the right-wing horseshit dripped into his brain. After the Monday Night Football fiasco, he'd do anything for a paycheck. Got all weird because he didn't think of the Limpballs thing first. Now, who cares. Fuck him and the red-state horse he rode in on.

27. That was extremely funny, a must read....some quotes
DENNIS MILLER (1988):
... Firing Line … you’re on cable more than hotel porn. And it says here that you’ve been spewing conservative rhetoric at a rate that would make Roy Cohn untuck his dinner napkin and ask for the check. It says here that, on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, you said: “George Bush has allowed us to respect the presidency again.” Is this my future? Is this the promise of all those hard years at a low-level state university? Dear God, am I still wearing white socks with loafers?!

DENNIS MILLER (2003):
Look, when you get older, it’s only natural to come around to a more conservative way of looking at things. I don’t want to live in a world where Bill Clinton is the good guy and Rudy Giuliani is the bad guy. And I’ve come to love George W. After 9/11, I respect a guy who’s going to kick a little ass. We were attacked. Fire and sand make glass, and when we’re done with Iraq it should look like Superman’s dad’s apartment on Krypton.

DENNIS MILLER (1988):
Clever. Let me write that down. Iraq didn’t attack us, Bullwinkle. It’s as if, after Pearl Harbor, we retaliated by bombing Ireland. Hey, it’s an island, and don’t you hate the way they dance without moving their arms? I’ve seen more pointed, intelligent reasoning from the person in the last position on the interview counter on Family Feud. Look, my appeal has always been as the iconoclast—the guy who doesn’t quite even buy his own bullshit. Now you’ve made me the King of Assholia. You drove our career off the side of the road like Corey Feldman on an all-night crank and sterno binge, but you blame Hollywood, which you feel has betrayed you because Bordello of Blood wasn’t on Ebert and Roeper’s eagerly awaited video-release list. And now you’re running to the Republican teat. It’s not the first time anyone’s ever crawled up Rupert Murdoch’s ass in times of career difficulty, and it won’t be the last, but it will be the first time a member of the president’s fan club will have the following quote on his resumé: “George W. Bush surrounds himself with smart people the way a hole surrounds itself with a donut.”
